Pete Doherty Artwork, by Strange Al on May 24, 2007 0:04:58 GMT 1, Pete's blood works do little other than revolt me. Although I like art to move me, revulsion is not an emotion a generally opt for. "So for that reason alone, I'm out"
That said, I think Pete Doherty is a truly talented singer-songwriter. I've seen Pete play live with The Libertines, Babyshambles and solo. There's no denying his performances are hit and miss - what type of gig you get is very dependent on his mood and his substance intake (that's if he turns up at all). Though if you witness him on form, you're left in little doubt why Kate Moss has chosen to be with him. He's witty, intelligent and charismatic. If you take a proper listen to the albums his played and written on, you can see that his lyrics are peppered with this wit and intelligence. Plus, I'm sure that for Ms Moss he's got that illusive bad boy streak girls just love. That unattainable - I can change him factor.
Obviously, he's got major health issues, including a drugs problem which he may or may not overcome. Though, as always the tabloid media doesn't waste a chance and has been quick to demonise him. What does Pete do? - he invariably plays to the stereo-type. In the short term this undoubtedly sells copy for the papers and sells records/concert tickets for Pete - win, win. Though, in the long run it's just destructive. But then that's a character trait Pete shares with a long list of talented artists.

Pete Doherty Artwork, by Strange Al on May 24, 2007 0:27:54 GMT 1, Fair enough Carlito. It would be damn boring if we all liked the same things.
Though you don't have to like Pete's music, to appreciate he can write.

Pete Doherty Artwork, by tomhills1 on May 24, 2007 18:01:12 GMT 1, I saw the libertines early doors in a small venue and they were amazing!! babyshambles are notoriously hit and miss for obvious reasons......when I saw them in nottingham they were great... I can only go off experience etc... ;D ;D Same as artwork really...you like what you like etc.... ;D ;D Question...how many of the middle class tossers who love Pete now invest in Banksy cause he is sooooooo bankable..etc..... or maybe if they are from the trendy spot that is Brighton they will be bagging themselves some Baldwin!!! ;)or maybe he is not so bankable anymore because everyone on here is trying to offload at cost price!!! ;D ;D ;D bargain if you ask me...but then again I like the libertines!! ;D
good point gordy, i too like the liberintes but let's be honest babyshambles are a joke. without carl barat he's nothing more than a pretentious 'poet'. do me a favour.

Pete Doherty Artwork, by discoduster on May 24, 2007 18:23:14 GMT 1, Ask anyone who has seen the libertines or babyshambles what they are like live...... i saw babyshambles live in 2005 at ULU and they were awful... best bit of the gig was standing next to holly Willoughby who was wearing a low cut top
I remember seeing Happy Mondays once with Sean Ryder sat down for half the gig and asleep for the other!

Friend of mine went to see The Pogues a couple of years back, Shane MacGowan spent the whole gig on his back in the middle of the stage
Still knew all the words though

;D i once was artist liason at the forum for the pogues, Shane MacGowan was late and as it was getting later and later the crowd were getting restless and soon after the IRA chants started....
an hour after the on stage time he was bundled into the building half staggering and half carried. I could hear the stage manager on my radio asking me if that was him entering the building and was he walking ?
pure comedy.
He was on the stage within minutes and was stunningly brilliant in his own shambolic fashion but that night has lived with me ever since.
