Banksy โข Andipa Gallery, by pidge on Jun 9, 2011 10:46:45 GMT 1, I have to say I totally agree with Gooooglemale, big disappointment, it was pretty much all the Banksy images that we have all seen before from Andipa, couldn't even put together a more recent catalogue, the one they were passing off for that evenings was from 2009 and they were charging ยฃ15. It really felt as though they were using Banksy's name to promote the War Boutique stuff, as we all know it will draw a bigger crowd.
The WB pieces were ok, nothing you really wanted to put your hand in your pocket for........all felt a bit Emperors new clothes!! :)
If your are n the area drop in, if you are traveling don't bother...

Banksy โข Andipa Gallery, by curiousgeorge on Jun 9, 2011 10:51:41 GMT 1, Probably in the minority in saying i love the early crude/rough pieces, sure they don't represent his work today, more a period in time and an important one at that.
RE:Pricing far from sticking up for the gallery, but i think they may have paid big money for a lot of stuff and that's before taking into account the location. Also remember the target market of that gallery

I'd agree with this as I really like the rough and less polished early pieces... the interesting thing is that a couple of the pieces were dated a lot later than I thought. If my memory is correct the 'Laugh Now' on the wooden door was dated 2009!

Banksy โข Andipa Gallery, by wentos on Jun 9, 2011 12:50:04 GMT 1, I went last night as well, was a good evening but wasn't amazed at the offerings, I was more impressed looking through into their store downstairs to see what they had.
There were no freebies unfortunately but I did pick up 5 signed 'Metropolitan Peace' badges at a cost of ยฃ10 each. If people want one then let me know, if more than five people do then I'll do random draw at 2100hrs today just to be fair. Only looking for cost back...I'll throw in free postage and will post abroad.

Banksy โข Andipa Gallery, by mmmike on Jun 9, 2011 13:05:40 GMT 1, Those of you who are complaining about the quality of the show are spoiled. I'd love to see that show. Over here in Canada shows like that do not happen every day. I'm thrilled to pass by the one only original Banksy I have ever seen in person, a small rat that is now covered in graffiti. It makes me smile every time.
I would really love to see War Boutique's work in person as well.

Er, Yes, Cough cough. I like to think I was ahead of the curve Wiz! Its great to see WB going strong. Although it is true that some of the work I showed in 08 is on display at Andipa, WB has some great new work on display. Really strong, I really like this stuff and I do miss working with artists like him and Pete & Cat And Static actually, I miss them all!!

Banksy โข Andipa Gallery, by mmmike on Jun 9, 2011 22:07:21 GMT 1, I really like WB. it is tough for me to justify paying the prices that are being asked but I think some of his work is crazy. I'm loving the vests. I think they used to be a lot cheaper. i wish I had got one when I could kind of afford one.
Wish I could have been at the last show and tried the target practice.
I do a lot of wishing. I should do some more doing. I need to plan a trip to London!

Banksy โข Andipa Gallery, by wentos on Jun 9, 2011 22:37:34 GMT 1, Had quite a few people interested in the badges but have PM'd the people who got one, names in a hat and my 2yr old picked them out so blame him if you didn't get one.
The Postman Pat print was ยฃ350 plus VAT, almost got one for my sons room but decided against it in the end.

Banksy โข Andipa Gallery, by stickitup on Jun 10, 2011 10:19:31 GMT 1, you have been welcome wiz. The show is really good, loved the WB work, the guy used to work making body armour and grew up in Paisley, the PSP piece was my fave though. Sadly the only piece I didn't really think worked was the Postman Pat, it seemed to jar with the rest of the work, very commercial though and a good print if taken out of contect of the accompanying works.

Banksy โข Andipa Gallery, by jusdeep on Jun 10, 2011 10:26:58 GMT 1, The show was good, but nothing to write home about. Agree with the above comments on the older pieces. Love the rawer nature of Banksy's work and much prefer it to the newer more polished pieces. My favourite piece was a toss up between the riot cop angel and the shooting chimps dyptich. Seen most of the pieces from War Boutique before, but really liked the paisley plates. Not sure what all the fuss about splitting the preview into two nights was all about, was quite empty as it was on Wednesday.
