Banksy fails to sell at auction, by seidbereit on Apr 2, 2008 17:35:56 GMT 1, Do you mean our good condition or Sothebys good condition ....... apart from pin holes to all four corners (two in upper right), with some associated creasing" ;D Really, the CND had pin holes as well? That would explain the low price if correct.
Nope.. the CND was described as good condition. No mention of holes or creases and even had a relatively desirable print numberr (111).
It was just patently the wrong auction for banksy stuff, I still can't fathom why he was included. A lot of the other works in the auction were also damaged to varying degrees but then we're talking about Warhols from the 70s and 80s etc. and not 3-4 year old prints where the buying public probably fairly rightly thought they were under no pressure to buy second-choice prints and thus didn't.
The CND was a surprise low price though. No reason for it other than not enough bidders having made the journey/phone call to bid on banksy. They wanted matisse or whatever else was there.

I'm told the cnd was fine, it's just they said the toxic mary and bombhugger were in 'good condition' with holes and creases!

Banksy fails to sell at auction, by pezlow on Apr 2, 2008 17:40:27 GMT 1, Prints in far from mint condition sell at auction all the time. Some of these actually received bids too (so people were prepared to pay big money for them) - it's just that they didn't make their reserve, which I think partly came down to the fact that they were in the wrong auction - mainly Matisse prints if I recall. It only seems to be people on here that are so uptight and anal about dinks and creases. Which is really quite funny when you think that most of the art we're talking about has come from the grimy, dirty streets!
Exactly. Thing is most of these dinks and creases can be ironed out by a good print restorer anyway. Edge dinks can be hidden by a mount. It is only on this board that mint condition matters so much.

Banksy fails to sell at auction, by skelly on Apr 2, 2008 18:43:30 GMT 1, Damn....I only go for signed prints with few exceptions, I was thinking about going for a signed napalm as my next Banksy...this auction could definitely hurt my chances

Banksy fails to sell at auction, by deal on Apr 3, 2008 16:23:24 GMT 1, BANKSY< BANKSY< BANKSY
oh, and some guy named Matisse too.
That's the only thing that I took from this article. Apparently, Banksy is bigger than Matisse!

Banksy fails to sell at auction, by Avian Security on Apr 3, 2008 16:47:51 GMT 1, It cracks me up that the BBC reported this at all. Do Banksy prints at auction really qualify as important news over in England?
Nothing happens here. Ever.
