Wow, a lot has sold. Congrats all, this proves that people are still willing to spend if the quality is there...

I thought, well presumed they would be all painted. Id be very dissapointed if i had bought one online for it to turn up and be a digital print. Amazing artist anyway and love my prints by him. Has he not got any 100 % painted ones?

No doubt about the quality of the new work they all look great, but for £1k i would expect a bit more than a printout! Is there no hand finishing at all on the new work?

I had thought the images would be digital but with painting and drawing over the top,is this not the case.It's a shame if not,the prices are good for the size but not if they are just printouts.Maybe Signal can explain to us how these are finished.

Defininely said hand finishing on either your website (which has maybe now been adjusted accordingly), or straight from Russ himself.
Not that this detracts from the works themselves, they look fantastic by the way

I really don't want to get into an argument over this because it doesn't bother me in the slightest as I was not purchasing work (this time). As I said in my previous post the works and sales of said works speak volumes. Maybe the phrasing was misleading, maybe myself and other members of the forum cannot read English, all I know is that there was deifinitely mention of hand finishing in the original buyers preview list. Let's leave it at that and just enjoy Russ' great work. peace

As did I... I think the miscommunication is in the "hand-varnished"... tbh, when I first read that description I thought that was referring to some sort of hand detail on the piece.. perhaps next time just say the works are varnished as I'm not sure how else to you could varnsh other than by hand?

I think your right the computer is a tool, I use a computer for most of my compositions now as probably most Artists do these days.
BUT then I draw them in an original form whether it be Stencil, Paint, or drawing

I think theres a stigma of Digital Art, and rightly so, alot of digital artists use alot of filters and programmes to do there work. Cos of this it is give it a bad name, as they are doing stuff at the touch of a button.

Use a mouse as a pencil or brush to create an image
Definately don't use any fancy filters.
Conventially hand draw or paint an image and arrange it or enhance it in photoshop.

Not really sure on the issue here, Russ Mills stuff has always been digital that is what he does. I think there very nice pieces and they clearly appeal judging by the amount sold. Nice one Russ and nice one Signal.

I like Russ' stuff - never done here anyone any harm - yeah i remember clearly the hype surrounding the small runs he occasionally releases... now here we,perhaps needlessly, have a little bit of fear uncertainty and doubt - I'm surprised to hear that and slightly disappointed.

I don't understand the fuss?

Would it be more artistic if he cut out a cardboard stencil and rattle canned his work? Is there such a skill difference between the results? The work that Russ produces is fresh, very sharp, distinctive and is simply using the tools of the times, rather nicely I may add.

Are we not at risk of falling foul of the same stuff that the blinkered critics of Banksy harp on about? Do we question why Banksy uses a rattle can and a cardboard cut out over how Matisse skillfully used paint on the tip of a brush? If the end results are pleasant and approving to the eye, why the hell question how the artist got to the result?

If you don't like it don't buy it, if you do then do......! Some people go crazy over a simple but effective stencil that is reproduced in print but then pull faces at an artist who uses a Mac, biro ink, paint, digital manipulation and then prints the result on an 1 of 1 canvas!!!!!! Not to mention that he throws out a very small run of his prints for £25!!

If Banksy started releasing prints that where completely of digital origin you lot would be tripping over each other.
