DFace - New York - 12th Sept - 10th Oct, by mose on Sept 9, 2009 12:07:55 GMT 1, i think this show is a case of introducing some familiar faces to a new audience.
That was the last NYC DFace show(his starring role in the Streets of Europe show). Ends up the new audience took a pass and the work that was sold went back to the UK. It helps when prices don't make your attempted new audience break out in laughter.
This is just a poor show filled with nothing, when the genre in general, DFace in particular, the continued attempts to break the UK scene on the US shores, and Levine Gallery all needed a homerun. A new standard bearer is/was needed to take some of the weight off of Banksy's shoulders and show that UK Street Art is more than a one-hit wonder internationally. To me, this show loudly screams out that D-Face can not carry that load.

DFace - New York - 12th Sept - 10th Oct, by Simococo on Sept 9, 2009 12:10:09 GMT 1, I think Dface suffers from a bit of an identity crisis One minute he is part of the street art/graffiti movement and the next minute he has distanced himself from it maybe lost some of his original fanbase His creativity has probably mellowed as wellwith money and fame. It was the street that gave him his lust for art in the first place Reminds me of the demise of Oasis......

when he 'came out' so to speak after the BRP show he said he was pulling away from the street and going more into galleries and was not afraid of that.
things move on.

Riot Coke HPM!
But if you wanted it I would contact the gallery now...guessing it will be sold out by the opening.

DFace - New York - 12th Sept - 10th Oct, by rosstierney on Sept 9, 2009 12:34:23 GMT 1, i think sometimes people forget that dface has his history based in illustration and design, i would not really refer to him as an artist. I think he would readily admit that as well.
"AM: I think I consider you as a pop artist more than a street artist, but Iโm interested to know how you view yourself
DF: I just consider myself an artist"

remembering him saying that but illegal work gave him the buzz and showed him the way. Got his juices rushing Without that he just becomes another contemporary urban artist.
Banksy, Os Gemeos, Shep still hit the streets and thats why their work is fresh and progressive.
Where snausages when you need him. That lad will be having words about the 29k price tags
