Josh Keyes Tiny Showcase print release, by origo on Jan 29, 2010 7:18:09 GMT 1, Some info on the piece, if anyone cares.
"The painting was inspired by a well known Native American story called "Raven steals the light", basically the raven steals the sun from an old man and while flying away he drops it on the world, giving it light.
My spin on this was the raven stealing the light away from humans, notice the bulb is an old fashioned non environmentally friendly bulb. Though the painting could be interpreted in many ways that is the kernel of the idea. The rising waters are a result from using inefficient technology. It was also an excuse to get a bear, octopus, and a raccoon in the same painting. I also wanted to punch up the color in this painting so I repainted the blue of the water about four times until I got it right.
This is also the first panting where I decided to paint the water line , (thin turquoise line) I also wanted to increase the painterly brushwork I had so much fun painting the bear's fur under the water giving it motion.
Here is a link to a version of the story.
