Not Happy Selling, by schlomo on Mar 31, 2010 11:33:02 GMT 1, What is your gut feeling - if the offer's a good one, and one you're happy with, sell them. Far more exciting than keeping them in the portfolio under the bed. Quality, not quantity, is the way forward...
Wot he said.

Not Happy Selling, by PUD on Mar 31, 2010 11:35:07 GMT 1, Plus ............. I feel I am kicking Nick in the balls a bit, he sorted the Bristol 99/99 and LTS A/P for me, the rest were bought by luck or after market! IF NICK GAVE YOU THE PRINTS, THEN YES YOU'RE KICKING HIM IN THE MUTTS. OTHERWISE IF YOU BOUGHT THEM, HE DID A SMALL FAVOUR FOR A COLLECTOR, WHO HAS MORE THAN SUPPORTED HIM THROUGHOUT HIS CAREER.
Cheers for the comment, and just for the record, I have never taken advantage of my friendship with Nick, I have always paid for my art although a door was opened with the LTS print to enable me to buy it!
He did however recently send me a Vandal Umbrella, and as a gift I would NEVER sell it!!
If someone sells a true gift I struggle deeply with the moral decision to sell, if the gift was as 'payment' for work undertaken (the Cans prints for example) then I see no harm in selling. - Just my view on that one!!

Not Happy Selling, by spencerlee on Mar 31, 2010 11:45:12 GMT 1, It's hard for sure. I have only let go of two pieces. One was a sale, just wasn't going to make the wall. Still hard to let go. The other was a print in a trade that was *really* hard to let go of, BUT it went towards an original that I love and have loved since I saw it.
Unless you are a billionaire, these decisions will happen all the time it's a question of what you like more ultimately.

Not Happy Selling, by Ruggs on Mar 31, 2010 11:48:26 GMT 1, I completely concur with what hlarmy says. In recent months i've sold quite a few prints and bits and pieces that would have just remained in my portfolio. It's regrettable, but necessary. Overall though i'm happy because now that i've thinned my collection down to my absolute favourites I can really concentrate on getting these where they belong ... on the wall and properly appreciate them.

Not Happy Selling, by Wearology on Mar 31, 2010 14:03:29 GMT 1, I get out of bed and go to work every single day so I can afford to provide for my family and buy art. I don't care about expensive cars, houses, toys etc, I want to earn and collect art - not traditional expensive art but rather affordable street art. But - The holy grail for me is a "Laugh Now" canvas the second holy grail is a canvas of "The Hard Hat Turtle" and than there goes the affordable statement. One day I will own both and than it is off to the retirement home.

Unfortunately you'll probably need to sell them again to pay for it...

Not Happy Selling, by buffin on Mar 31, 2010 14:32:02 GMT 1, Well said Wearology. Some of my best memories are of taking family and friends to events like Lambeth Palace, Cans and the Bristol Museum show. Biggest regret probably not making the effort to go to Bethlehem. Its not all about the art on the walls.

Not Happy Selling, by manty on Mar 31, 2010 16:27:45 GMT 1, Good luck with the decision Pud, most of the time fortunately its not about the money side of things, trading up, down or sideways, its about what you want to look at on the wall, me personally, I wouldn't bother as its only a signature your gaining, but your losing the bits you chased and saved for

Not Happy Selling, by PUD on Apr 1, 2010 10:18:57 GMT 1, Thanks all for helping me through one of the most traumatic experiences I have experienced while collecting art!!
The point of this thread was not to see if the deal I was considering was worth it, it was to see if other forum members had gone through the pain of letting art go that they love - for whatever reason!!
I really cant beleive how difficult this has been and how art really can affect you emotionally!
I have agreed a deal and the collection is going to someone who was looking to put it together individually, all off to a good home where it will be appreciated!
Thanks again all!!
