A bit like the way rioters are always setting fire to their own estates. If he's not deleting the most popular and informative threads or flooding the listings with ancient ones then he's changing the layout to make things increasingly difficult to find and the entire experience more and more unfriendly.
It's almost as if on some subconscious level he wants the forum to fail.
