Banksy in Seattle, by hitme on Apr 24, 2010 18:07:46 GMT 1, I have lived in Seattle for the last 8 years and if it matters any, these rats are notorious around the city, as well as the Cornish Art School campus. It is definitely a Banksy-copycat. On top of that, I agree with the above comments, the stencil work is just too weak to even be close to be considered a work by Mr. B. Nice bit of hype though, Silky. Shouldn't you know by now how to spot a real Banksy.
Besides that, all of the works by Banksy on his West Coast USA swing have had some type of political or social commentary. These sloppy rats do not. I can guarantee that when all of the images from Mr. B's recent trip are posted on his website, these Seattle rats will not be included.

Banksy in Seattle, by wimpy on Apr 24, 2010 20:28:40 GMT 1, Fake.
Banksy actually does some freehand and other shadowing/highlighting using the stencils for those top layers.
Clear this is a very flat two-stencil overlay with no attention to the finer details of using spraypaint.

Banksy in Seattle, by Happy Shopper on Apr 24, 2010 22:54:00 GMT 1, Looks very fake to me. I just wouldn't have thought he'd do these old style rats (although he did the top hat one in Camden), but these look ropey... And don't seem to be there for any reason. Nope. Not real.

Banksy in Seattle, by swamped on Apr 25, 2010 5:54:37 GMT 1, I just went up and looked at it, they seem real to me. I was in London and Bristol in September and saw many rats these look damn close to say the least, a little odd with the tail curves to me but I would still say legit!..

Well I am hoping they are legit, might not be but who know's?? not me and not you either.... When you are standing there looking at it it seems pretty real, just bigger then the ones we saw in London. Who know's?? How do you say educate myself unless you sprayed it, did you? If not then its just another opinion just like mine or anyone else....Or are you the official Banksy authority? Go take a look for yourself IN PERSON, then get back to me...

I already have gone and checked these out. They are a complete waste of time; I was upset I even drove to them. Compare them to his stencil work in other places like LA which I've seen in person and these fake Seattle pieces are laughable.
I say go educate yourself by examining more of his work. Comments from people like yourself saying that these are legit is just another example of why Seattle has zero street art scene. The city's people are just not educated enough on the subject.
Besides, you think Banksy would come to Seattle, spray some very sloppy rats in a back alley and then leave? No! He would spray on several different walls and on a much larger scale. Do you notice a pattern recently from Banksy? He doesn't just visit a city and quickly spray one spot. He takes his time and sprays quality work at numerous locations. See San Francisco.
These Seattle scraps are a joke. Some high-school poser trying to be cool. Actually, I should have asked sooner. "Did you spray these?"

Your a joke, I agree that they are probably not by him, but you never know ,except you know I guess?? And no I did not do them, they are still fun to look at all the same, but I suggest you just look at something else instead if it gets your panties up in such a knot. Or if you like I could meet you over there and then we can talk about my ignorance in person? What do you say? Bottom line is art is art period, if Banksy did it great and screw you, if not then nice try by someone I appreciate the effort either way myself....

So I assume, if you're not Banksy, your work is just crappy shit...
I disagree. This work - Banksy or not - is good. If it's not Banksy, I think it was a nice thing doing this at this spot. It's like saying "Thank you for your movie, there are people here who care". It's like a tribute. It might also be a way to show people that if you have sth to say, don't wait to be Banksy to do it. You may have fun too.
Banksy is not the only one allowed to spraypaint on walls and that's a good thing

I still have a feeling he might be getting other people to go round and put these pieces up for him. He finds the location, cuts the stencils, picks the colours, and then leave them to put it up This would also explain why the free hand bits might look a little bit different

I agree that is a very strong possibility. Unlike the UK where the laws are a little bit more lenient. In the US they don't care if you are Banksy or not. The last thing I would think he needs is to be "unmasked" by getting arrested in San Fransisco.

Banksy in Seattle, by jerikr on Apr 26, 2010 21:22:14 GMT 1, My feeling also was that if Banksy did come here (Seattle), that he would put up some other bigger works around town. Not just spray a couple of rats and then get on a plane to the next movie opening. I think him having a "street team" of sorts, is an interesting possibility. But the art school kids scenerio is as well. Hell, maybe it was the Harvard Exit (movie theatre) staff;-)

Banksy in Seattle, by johncootrane on Apr 27, 2010 3:34:32 GMT 1, It really isnt a good spot. If he was going to pick a spot in seattle, it would have been in a better spot. Do you want to know why there isn't any graffiti in that spot already? Because it is way out of the main path. Although capital hill (the place where the theater is) is highly populated, that theater is on some side street, way out of the way of everything else.
I am not convinced at all. Plus I heard a couple pieces appeared in Cali on the same night.
I have lived in Seattle for the last 8 years and if it matters any, these rats are notorious around the city, as well as the Cornish Art School campus.
I actually go to cornish, and have never seen these rats around. That doesn't mean that they are not notorious. No one has been stupid enough to go around spraying it all up though until now.

Banksy in Seattle, by hsilentwalker on May 26, 2010 16:36:09 GMT 1, highly, HIGHLY doubt it's him, i mean... i've looked and studied his other pieces, and the rats in this picture, they're too... bad. i mean, where's his normal detail?? the tails are too thick... most definitely WANNABE-BANKSY! although, the thought that someone might be running around for him... seems kinda eh, it's crossed my mind... but still in doubt.
