That's about ยฃ367. Minus postage (from POW to seller). What do they charge to the US? Not a huge profit for the effort.

New Invader Prints @ shopatlazarides.com, by twinkle on Apr 10, 2010 15:38:18 GMT 1, Invader lands in my front room! Just picked it up from the post office. Beautifully crisp image, the print style gives it a nice depth, almost 3D feel. Slightly disappointed with the Laz school of packaging though, one corner slightly creased but thankfully far enough away from the signature.
I like the fact on the orange and blue print that the colour yellow still just sneaks into the frame! Pretty sure this was the last one available on the website before selling out completely, and whilst I wanted one of the other colour ways this really works well up close.
Enjoy the sunshine all!

The half toning is very cool. Its going to need a lot of wall space around it to have full effect.

New Invader Prints @ shopatlazarides.com, by bullet on Apr 11, 2010 0:54:23 GMT 1, half toning is basically what screen prints are... all little dots. Hence why some images are quite rough as you have to half tone things before you screen if they are complex images... but it looks like he has just done it for a laugh there.
these prints are lovely.

New Invader Prints @ shopatlazarides.com, by spirit on Apr 11, 2010 1:16:07 GMT 1, Halftones are essentially an optical illusion. They are are method of of simulating a continuous tone image (eg a gradation from black to white which contains an infinite number of greys in between) using only a single colour. To get a very dark grey you would have big black dots spaced closely together, To get a very light grey you would have small black dots with lots of white space in between them.

Got it !
so it kinda gives a 3d affect meaning the print looks like more of a photograph...
and looks like the cubes have been twisted and sickers not uniform...
so is Invader pushing boundries in printing with his last two releases ?

Well halftoning does give a 3d effect in so far as it is required to produce areas of light and shade in a photographic image printed using a single colour to give the illusion of depth.
It's certainly not pushing any boundaries though. The halftone technique was invented in the second half of the 19th century to answer a fundamental problem faced by the newspaper industry which was; how can we reproduce these new-fangled photographs on our printing presses?
To help explain the problem let me use the example of a pencil. A pencil is an incredibly versatile tool. By varying the pressure you use, you can create thick dark lines by pushing hard, or thin light lines by pressing lightly. You can also build up tone by using layers - ie going over a line you have already drawn a 2nd time will make it darker.
However, neither of these techniques are possible on a printing press, where the pressure is uniform across the sheet and you only want to pass that sheet through the press once - so how do you create different shades of grey (which are required to reproduce a photograph) using only black ink at a constant pressure?
To help answer the problem they looked back at how they reproduced drawings on the press - which was basically etchings (intaglio). One of the primary methods of creating different shades in an intaglio print (and before that woodcuts) was hatching (closely spaces parallel lines - the closer the spacing, the darker the tone) and cross-hatching (when lines are places at angles to one another in a criss-cross pattern.) Albrecht Dรผrer was a master of this technique.
Halftones work on the same general principle, except that they use dots instead of lines. without halftones it would not be possible to reproduce tonal photographs in print.

New Invader Prints @ shopatlazarides.com, by bullet on Apr 11, 2010 12:30:28 GMT 1, i think the embossing of the other ones was justified as it was the size of the tiles (basically meant to be a print of the tiles) but this is a lot bigger and is cubes so the emboss would not have worked.
