Banksy in New York , by Macdeee on May 19, 2010 8:38:03 GMT 1, I really dont think Banksy gives a sh*t about this... He has a good few pictures of the pieces right after they were made and im sure all of these will live forever in a book to come out in the not so distant future.
Writers have friends all over the world, all it probably took was an email from Robbo and this piece was taken care of. Kinda sad actually.

Banksy in New York , by froz on May 19, 2010 9:52:40 GMT 1, In response to the d'facing of banksys...its because Graffiti artists don't like banksy. they feel his stencils are inferior as opposed to hand made with spray paint and different caps.
If the graffiti artists knew why he stenciled instead of doing everything by hand I think they might have a little more respect...not to mention if they have seen his way earlier works when he was a true graffiti artist.

that is the most ridiculious statement I have heard all year.

Glad there were lots of pictures taken while they were fresh. The Dr. w/ heart in the Financial District/WTC is my favorite.

Banksy in New York , by BK83 on May 19, 2010 18:03:08 GMT 1, Same thing that happened to the Shep piece on Houston x Bowery. BTM Crew Adek, Jade, Fuct, and Refry owned it Friday night.
The thing is, if you come to NYC you have to be prepared for the writers to own your work. This is a city that is run by the taggers and writers. Serious graffiti. It's not so much about pretty pictures here. I for one love it. It makes it all that much more interesting.
Don't get me wrong, I love street art just as much. But being in NYC and seeing the writers get up in places you just can't imagine is honestly breathtaking. BTM runs NYC. Adek, Nekst, Jade.. The list goes own.

Banksy in New York , by froz on May 19, 2010 18:21:31 GMT 1, He started stenciling because it cut his time down immensely. He was a full blown graffiti artist before but supposedly this made him change his mind.
As for graffiti writers not respecting his work...ask some actual graffiti artists what they think of banksy. You will see how much he is not approved by the graffiti community. One of my friends is a graffiti artist. I asked him if he was going to see the new Banksy movie. His response was "is it just a bunch of that stencil shit"... he hates stencils. He thinks it takes no talent (MBW) to stencil something on the side of a building.

Banksy in New York , by aspyhole on May 19, 2010 18:28:48 GMT 1, Can't believe this Team Robbo bullshit is still going on. If they really had anything to do with Robbo, they would know about the state of the Robbo piece before Banksy had his way with it, but let's not go into that here.
Glad some nice pictures have been taken of these new pieces though. Shame about the destruction.

I know some graffiti writers in London who love Banksy as he's made people interested in the art form again. Heck, I used to hunt down pieces as a kid and photograph them. Coming across Banksy as rekindled my interest.
On a side note I stumbled across some of Banksy's pre stencil pieces, that guy could spray! I has no idea he was so good at the free hand stuff. He's just an allround true artist.

Banksy in New York , by nine-o on May 19, 2010 20:30:45 GMT 1, Regarding the post above from dkuehnen: "I posted about this earlier. Here is a picture of this drunk chick writing in purple lipstick while the idiot on the left adamantly attempted to hit on her.... it was unreal and a few snaps with my camera is what scared her off.... I had a bit of an exchange with the girl when she said she was a street artist and I asked her if her tag was "Vodka"....
I know that girl and I can confirm that she wasn't drunk, isn't German, isn't Vodka as Vodka is a dude from Brighton, England, the the fella to the right wasn't hitting on her, he's a friend of Martha Cooper and they were just chatting about street art, she didn't disappear once pics were taken either.
I think it was kind of ironic that she wrote about water being on Water Street wouldn't you say and at least she showed some sort of respect to the piece by not writing over it.

Banksy in New York , by dcr7madrid on May 19, 2010 22:57:12 GMT 1, In response to NINEO - Never said the girl was german... she was english judging by the accent... And if she was not drunk when I was there then she was definitely on something else... And yes, the kid was hitting on her... The girl would not tell him her real name.. He then said more than a few times, "C'mon, I dont care if you wont tell me your name, i have to buy you a drink... c'mon".... If thats not hitting on a girl I dont know what is.... I literally turned to my girl who was standing there and said how pathetic it was... Yes the girl told the kid that Banksy told her to write on the piece... He was recording her when she said it so if you know him check out the video.... I asked her if her name was Vodka as a joke because she was visibly drunk... sarcasm.... If that's your boy, I am not going to fault him, he was hitting on a decent looking chick... he just needs better lines... I will fault the girl because she was defacing a brand new piece. They did not run away when I snapped a few pics but they definitely did not want to be around it.... Just calling it the way I saw it...

She wasn't defacing the piece at all as she didn't actually write on the piece itself, others actually did.

Banksy in New York , by dcr7madrid on May 19, 2010 23:33:35 GMT 1, Alright Nineo.... i call it defacing... why did she decide to write directly in that spot? there were many other places she could have written her deep thoughts.... why did she say banksy told her to do it? Why was she saying she is a street artist? Dude, when she was done writing she threw her lipstick thingy at the Banksy piece and almost faceplanted.... the girl was wasted... again vodka was just sarcasm.... i didnt give her a sniff test to determined exactly what she had..... Emjay was in the wrong man... plain and simple
