Herbert Baglione ๐ง๐ท New Paintings โข Exhibition News, by RPM on Dec 11, 2009 21:56:24 GMT 1, Cheers spirit! Yours is top notch as well. There's something about the eyes, eyebrows, and strands of hair on the figure in your piece that is ... well, I don't know what it is, but I stared at it for a long time yesterday and thought long and hard about grabbing it.
Congrats to all on their new purchases. And lee3, please let us know your thoughts on the show. Really interested to hear how the "Herbert 2" painting looks in the flesh. I loved it when I saw the image in the Juxtapoz feature and would have grabbed it if I only had won the lottery.

Herbert Baglione ๐ง๐ท New Paintings โข Exhibition News, by robertlondon on Dec 16, 2009 19:56:51 GMT 1, Here's the one I bought:
I just love the curves!
I see Baglione as something of an urban art nouveau revivalist. His images are both beautiful and despairing.

Herbert Baglione ๐ง๐ท New Paintings โข Exhibition News, by Francis on Dec 16, 2009 21:37:20 GMT 1, Thanks rkitek. I agree. I think rather than focusing on print releases, it would be nice if more artists (and galleries especially) recognized that there's a ton of "newbies" out there that are being introduced to the world of art. I understand that sometimes a print is the best alternative when the originals are simply not in the realm of being affordable to the average person. The recent Parla and Choe print releases are perfect examples of that. But I also think more artists should consider putting out affordable original works to help foster their fanbase. To me, there is nothing like the feeling of looking on your wall and seeing a beautiful piece of art. The only thing that, in my opinion, makes it better is knowing that you are the only one in the world with that image - not 50, 100, 500, etc. other people. It just makes it that much more unique and special. Just my $.02. Anyhow, I truly applaud HB and Fifty24SF for putting this all together. Again, $250 for a framed OG is about as good as it gets, especially in these economic times ... RPM
as an artist, you will totally dilute and cheapen your market, not to mention compromise your artistic integrity.
ask yourself this....are you buying something someone feels the need to make for themselves or to satisfy the base needs of collectors?

Herbert Baglione ๐ง๐ท New Paintings โข Exhibition News, by lee3 on Dec 16, 2009 22:30:08 GMT 1, Francis, I may be mistaking the context of your comment and if so my apologies.
>>>as an artist, you will totally dilute and cheapen your market, not to mention compromise your artistic integrity.<<<
I disagree on both counts as I think it's entirely artist specific. As to your latter point, if the artistic vision is to try your hand at a bunch of drawings and see how you regard them, then you have not compromised your integrity whether you care to sell them or not.
As to the former point that a bunch of drawings would dilute and cheapen the market in favor of fewer originals accompanied by a print run, again I disagree. It is no secret in the art market that the most expensive artists tend to be the most prolific. Clyfford Still notwithstanding, if your goal is to increase price over time then you need to produce enough work that it is collected in as many hands as possible. The two most prolific artists of the 20th century are by far the most expensive. It is rare that modest amounts of work equate to a more robust and expensive market (as opposed to your dillute/cheapen analogy) and imho is one of the reasons the photorealists struggle from a pricing standpoint despite the way they embraced the print medium.
I'm not going to suggest Baglione will be on any kind of short list and will let history decide that one but I disagree with your points as I interpret them.
>>>ask yourself this....are you buying something someone feels the need to make for themselves or to satisfy the base needs of collectors?<<<
Neither, I'm buying that which moves me at a price I am comfortable with. Further, I would never consider hanging a Baglione print due to my own preferences, but this will be the second piece of his that I hang on a wall.

Herbert Baglione ๐ง๐ท New Paintings โข Exhibition News, by origo on Jan 2, 2010 15:38:28 GMT 1, Without a place to live, and itยดs freakinยด cold! Need to raise funds for a deposit for a new place, so something has to go. Not happy with this situation, but some things are more important than art. At least they are right now.
I have this killer Baglione piece for sale, cost was 5000 USD from Upper Playground, I am letting it go for 1500 GBP shipped for a quick sale. The piece measures 30 x 60 cm.
Feel free to get in touch.

I'm not sure I agree. It's ยฃ185 and Baglione is brilliant, one of the top Brazilian street arists and a pioneer imo. There aren't many prints of his out there either and he's not in the habit of releasing them too often. How much would you expect to pay for prints from established artists in this scene? I think the crap churned out by some other artists for twice the money make this look quite reasonably priced! If you like it, ยฃ185 is hardly taking the piss for an edition of 100 imo.

I would consider partrades on this one, interested in Micallef prints, Neate prints, other originals. Would need some cash in the deal though.
