Dain ๐บ๐ธ New York Street Art โข Collaged Portraits, by Prescription Art on Apr 16, 2008 16:44:27 GMT 1, You just beat me to it!!
The eagerly awaited new DAIN prints are now available to buy.
www.prescriptionart.com/prints.aspx?artist_id=75§ion_id=1
Once again they're all unique and hand printed by DAIN (though I guess I should describe them as hand 'finished' since that's in vogue right now).
There are only 25 of each, and they're going fast.....

Dain ๐บ๐ธ New York Street Art โข Collaged Portraits, by Ron Goldsurfer on Apr 16, 2008 17:44:07 GMT 1, Am I the only one who think this is pure shite? It is as awful as Niagaraยดs work even if they are different in style. I can hardly believe anyone wants this on the wall of their home. But ok, I will be fair and say that when it comes to taste, itยดs nice that we all donยดt like the same. So, you that buy this stuff, keep your fingers away from the next Banksy, cause you canยดt actually like that also, right?

Dain ๐บ๐ธ New York Street Art โข Collaged Portraits, by mcster on Apr 16, 2008 18:25:30 GMT 1, Ouch. . .
Back to Dain for a moment, I'm just waiting for one of his pieces to arrive, which the post office assures me will be here tomorrow. I think it's great stuff and can't see how it contradicts my taste for Banksy. It's a style that reminds me of Bast a little.

Dain ๐บ๐ธ New York Street Art โข Collaged Portraits, by wimpy on Apr 16, 2008 19:28:51 GMT 1, t.v is a fantastic print. i don't get why he's using icons from another era though
I first bought a Dain piece because it was a beautiful image of the fight between Rocky Marciano and Jersey Joe Walcott. Now... being in my mid-20s, this outdates me by many years. However, I grew up in a family from NY city and the Catskill mountains (Rocky's training grounds) and heard endless stories glorifying him.
You can put JFK, Jackie O, Bruce Lee, etc in that realm of people perceived by the public as superhuman or controversial or whatever you associate them with. They all had their "mystique" and "intrigue". I think they are much better images than Paris Hilton or whatever other "idols" we have now that we see in every damn piece of artwork.
My guess is Dain comes from a similar situation (a Brooklyn kid) and is actually a bit older (considering he was a graffiti artist in the 80s according to lintnyc). Then you toss in the whole Warhol or whoever you want to and the whole repetitive image mass marketing thing like in TV Boy, and you've got gold.
Not only are the images appealing, but they make me think about fam. If there was one piece in all my collection I'd save if my house was burning, it'd probably be that Rocky one that reads "Reconstruct Vandalism". Love it.

Dain ๐บ๐ธ New York Street Art โข Collaged Portraits, by Filipino Box Spring Hog on Apr 17, 2008 4:41:02 GMT 1, I love my Dain original - can't afford to spend any $ right now but, if I could I'd grab both of the prints - I like the nostalgic play he does - life is so chaotic - it's nice to have something that reminds you of a time when life at least seemed more grounded.

i get what your saying, i think it's because not coming from the U.S and being of a different generation, they seem like icons from another era, or, more apt, another life/culture

And I really do love the workmanship that goes into his wood and canvas pieces. Plus these new prints look a bit more "worked" than the older ones.
