New Banksy in London?, by jusdeep on Jun 10, 2010 8:07:13 GMT 1, Just seen a small clip of it on BBC news, not sure if it's by him or not but was of a lion and what looked like girl with balloon. Somewhere in North London I think. Haven't got time to look for it now but thought I'd give a little heads up.

New Banksy in London?, by jusdeep on Jun 10, 2010 9:48:44 GMT 1, I was running out of the house too. The piece looked a bit odd to me, but couldn't really tell anything from the glimse I caught. Just the subject started ringing alarm bells. GWAB mixed with the lion. Scale looked a little odd and looked more painted than stenciled.

New Banksy in London?, by silvermyn on Jun 10, 2010 11:27:04 GMT 1, Could this be the elusive Banksy caught in the act?
A pub landlord was furious when he found a graffiti vandal had daubed paint on the wall of his newly decorated beer garden — until he realised it could be a valuable one-off by the world-famous guerilla artist.
Lawrence Santi, 28, and his wife Karen, 30, are determined to keep this mural of a lion and a girl holding a heart-shaped balloon at the Princess of Wales in Primrose Hill.
The pub's CCTV camera filmed a hoodie-wearing figure creating the artwork in the dead of night. The footage shows him erecting a portable spot light on a chair while he sets to work using a step ladder.
Mr and Mrs Santi told the Standard they are delighted with their unexpected new paint job. Genuine Banksy murals can be worth hundreds of thousands of pounds — but even if it turns out just to have been one of the Bristol artist's imitators, the couple vowed to keep it.
Mrs Santi said: “I think it's fantastic. It's quite a talking point in the pub. Lawrence was angry at first, saying look at the damage'. We have only recently decorated the garden and put the mirrors up so he wasn't happy. He was going to paint over it but I talked him out of it. Now we are wondering if it's a famous artist or if it's worth something, but even if it's not we think it's great.”
Mrs Santi added: “It's very exciting that our CCTV caught him in the act and you can just about see the side of his face at one point. It's amazing that in the darkness and pouring rain he can produce something so good.”
Banksy's spokeswoman was unavailable for comment.

New Banksy in London?, by edcase on Jun 10, 2010 11:48:36 GMT 1, Blatant attempt by the pub to get some publicity. "Landlady Karen Santi said: "It looks very good. My husband was going to paint over it and people came in and said, 'Don’t touch it!' Everybody thinks it’s pretty much real."
"As the day unfolded, we thought, ‘You know what, it's nice.'"
Rumour has it, she added, that there is ongoing rivalry between Banksy and a local street artist, which could have prompted the new graffiti."
Yeah, right...

New Banksy in London?, by Pure Evil on Jun 10, 2010 18:41:47 GMT 1, I went to see it its freehand and looks really shonky.. the red lettering in the mirror reminds me of something else I have seen somebody else do.... the light in the security camera picture looks like its from an overhead projector.... the girls face looks horrible and she has a gimp hand. The leg looks atrophied like she has leprosy or something PLUS the location is totally random.. a pub garden ? C'mon.

New Banksy in London?, by Drymounted on Jun 10, 2010 19:46:51 GMT 1, Seems to also be a bit too bold with the black, and the lines a bit too crisp. Also, the location doesn't seem to be a place where Banksy would leave his mark.
Brilliant publicity stunt though.

New Banksy in London?, by bazzj04 on Jun 10, 2010 20:53:05 GMT 1, It made it into the Evening Standard tonight, and a fairly big write up with pictures, I guess the publicity plan paid of well for the owners, Having looked at the image, pretty sure that it is not Banksy. No reason for it , re-hash of girl with ballon , a lion ?. Means nothing, Banksy would at least had some sort of reasoning behind doing any work.

New Banksy in London?, by Deleted on Jun 11, 2010 13:55:55 GMT 1, This says more about how journalism and the media operate these days, falling for PR stunts as gospel. Have a look at the case of the 'Nat West Three' as a prime example of how the media falls for this stuff and dresses it up in the guise of 'news'.
www.guardian.co.uk/business/2007/nov/30/banking.enron
We are beginning to get the signs of this with BP - 'how dare these foreigners attack such a reputable Britsh company'. As opposed to the reality of the damage BP are doing through greed and negligence. Ignore the pension and share price issues - bear in mind what is happening to this part of the world.
Beware of PR sold as 'news'.
Oh, and both the story and the painting are s***
