Guy Denning ๐ฌ๐ง New Paintings โข Neomodern , by snelj8 on Nov 20, 2007 3:08:08 GMT 1, My problem with Denning is that I think if I had one print, then I am not sure I would want another. This is admittedly a really shallow view of his work...but they all look kinda similar to me. I appreciate they are all obviously quite different thou.
i have minotaur woman, all the punks 1 and 2 ... and all 3 together looks great, similar style in how they were painted, and similar imaging. Mine arent framed yet, does anyone have these 3 on the wall?

Guy Denning ๐ฌ๐ง New Paintings โข Neomodern , by scavos on Nov 20, 2007 9:40:20 GMT 1, hendrix, from what I understand he returned to the burnt shell of his studio in France after the show and is cracking on with the painting. snelj8 - I'd love to see some more pics of framed prints. Mine are tacked away until the decorating's done but Minotaur Woman will be getting a nice big dark brown box frame in the new year.

Guy Denning ๐ฌ๐ง New Paintings โข Neomodern , by Daniel Silk on Nov 21, 2007 17:32:04 GMT 1, Just had my Guy Denning show print arrive from Red Propeller ;D well pleased! ;D
They were only available on the night of the show, and they only printed the number that was ordered. I was shocked when I saw the number of the edition 10 and it was only ยฃ95 ;D

Sorry mate, I'm perhaps being unnecessarily sarcastic regarding Guy Denning. He's a professional artists, solid set of ethics and a nice manifesto..stylistically it's just a bridge too far for me. I guess the hype from certain members on here just sets me off.
Good luck to the man.

Guy Denning ๐ฌ๐ง New Paintings โข Neomodern , by hendrix on Nov 21, 2007 19:00:14 GMT 1, One for nuart.
Hyperbole (pronounced /haɪˈpɝbəli/ or "hy-PER-buh-lee"; "HY-per-bowl" is a mispronunciation) is a figure of speech in which statements are exaggerated. It may be used to evoke strong feelings or to create a strong impression, and is not meant to be taken literally.
The modern slang term hype, in its usage as meaning extravagant publicity, may be derived from the word hyperbole.

Guy Denning ๐ฌ๐ง New Paintings โข Neomodern , by scavos on Nov 21, 2007 20:42:36 GMT 1, Well I'm f**ked if I'm going to feel guilty about discussing and appreciating (as opposed to hyping) any artist on this forum.
Not sure why anyone would feel the incessant need to criticise those that do talk about an artist just because they personally don't like their work. I find debate and criticism of the art itself really interesting but the little digs seem a little controlling to me.
If people choose to praise an artist and say how 'great' they think their artwork is then surely they can do so without being patronised or being accused of blind adulation.
Is it any wonder why some lurkers feel intimidated to post?
'Great' print Silky. Really looking forward to receiving mine from a very kind forum member sometime soon. I'll check out your vid when I get home. Happy days! ;D

See, this is the problem ain't it, I take it you own a Denning or two then ? So when anyone tries to discuss the merits or otherwise of certain artists introduced to the forum, the ones who own it get all panicky that any negative comments or discussions will devalue their investment..
So come then.. what ya got Fusseh

I don't like most of the half baked toss you were touting at Pooart earlier this year, but felt no need to deride it. Do I own some Dennings?? Yes, just as you own some Banksy's. The difference is, none of mine are photographs that I bought off e-bay. ;D

I suspect I'm the one getting accused of hyping artists Hype is not what I would call it If I like an artists work I'm not afraid to say it, and thats how it should be ;D I don't own any Jef Aerosol, so am I still allowed to say I like his work? am I allowed to run his Fans forum? Guy Denning ๐ฌ๐ง New Paintings โข Neomodern , by Daniel Silk on Nov 21, 2007 23:43:35 GMT 1, its all about choice and different opinions if we all liked the same we would have no one getting prints of every artist!!(s**t that would be) don't worry silky he seems to have it in for these sort of posts. if i don't like an artist/thread about something its simple I DO NOT READ IT not moan that there are to many posts about it.
Thanks Bigman
Yep! thats what a real forum is about ;D We are all given choices, different Galleries, different Artists, different styles ;D Its all about placing the options in front of people and letting THEM make the decision's. ALL Galleries and Artists are welcome to come on here and tell us about what they have to offer, coz thats how it should be. Thats how this place is gonna stay! so if anyone wants to only be a member here just to try and destroy artists just coz they don't own any of their work, I think it would be best from them to leave. Thank you! ;D
The forums will stride forward!

LOL..don't be bitter, you sold a shed load of Banksy's earlier this year, and bought Guy Dennings, fair enough. But I think it's completely irrelevant work considering the movement we're involved with supproting and discussing on these forums. Not that it's not good, it's just got zero relevance to this scene.
It's a throwback to pre 1950's life drawing figurative art that I've seen a million times before.. nothing wrong with that. But a handful of people on here have bought it and are crying like babies when a few others have the nerve to say they think it's got nothing to do with this fourm... or actively criticise it.
Discuss..
BTW: There's also a Guy Denning forum where you can just say "love it" over and over again to each other...I'm sure it's far more interesting than listening to someone on a Banksy forum try to engage you in something a tad more substantial.
peace.

Not at all Silky.. like I said, read the first post on this thread. It's quite sad. You or anyone else can say " I like so and so" someone else can ask "why".. it's a debate and discuission about an artist, right ? a forum.. introduce a traditional figurative artist to a street art + board, expect to have a discussion about it. That's all.

Silk, here's the thread and debate I'm responsing to.
Whatโs next for Guy Denning, sure the red propeller show was a hit and as it stands today all the pieces have sold. I myself love Guy's work and have purchased several prints. I recently tried to sell Minator Woman on eBay, over 200 views and 12 watchers but no bids. I find it incredible that people are still buying the beejoir s.b.f.o for over ยฃ200.00 pounds yet a print like Minotaur woman with a starting bid at ยฃ150.00 fails to attract a single bid. You may detect I'm a bit annoyed and you would be right. I hold my hands up I bought this pieces as a kind of savings fund for Christmas not arsed about making a profit but just so I didnโt blow the ยฃ195.00 on some crap
A member finds it incredible that beejoirs are still selling for 200quid, yet he can't shift his Denning, even though Denning sold out his show.
Beejoir's are still selling to members because he's a street artist and relevant to what's going on and what the majority here are intereted in, Denning's aren't because his works not relevant to the majority of people collecting street art. That's an invitation to a discussion IMO. Not an attack on Denning's work.
Exactly, I have a different opinion. Cheers ! I hold my hands up I bought this pieces as a kind of savings fund for Christmas not arsed about making a profit but just so I didnโt blow the ยฃ195.00 on some crapA member finds it incredible that beejoirs are still selling for 200quid, yet he can't shift his Denning, even though Denning sold out his show. Beejoir's are still selling to members because he's a street artist and relevant to what's going on and what the majority here are intereted in, Denning's aren't because his works not relevant to the majority of people collecting street art. That's an invitation to a discussion IMO. Not an attack on Denning's work.
