C215 🇫🇷 Christian Guémy • Paris Street Art • Stencil Artr, by olapig on Aug 2, 2008 17:44:22 GMT 1, heres C215's response : "!!! ... the problem is that we paint for everybody and just one gets the pleasure from now. hard times where neighbours, cops, buffers, toyers and even thieves have to be struggled with. we could almost understand why "street artists" work less and less in the streets.. no? " and my reply.. "Its the conflict that makes the world go around... animals have a worse time ... "The total amount of suffering in the natural world is beyond all decent contemplation. During the minute it takes me to say these words, thousands of animals are running for their lives, whimpering with fear, feeling teeth sink into their throats. Thousands are dying from starvation or disease or feeling a parasite rasping away from within. There is no central authority; no safety net. For most animals the reality of life is struggling, suffering and death." Richard Dawkins, The Genius Of Darwin (Mon, 8pm, C4) "
And thats just the natural world.

I think all street artists recognise that at some point there work will either get painted over or naturally fade but its a completely different thing when people come along and start tearing up the streets! The only consolation is at least pieces like that are pretty impossible to sell for a decent amount

But these days with anti-graf bumps on many a surface sometimes these things are the only things possible for a stencil artist to paint - maybe the thing to do is boycott items that have been stolen from the street making them worthless.....

I sometimes find it really frustrating when I have planned a piece for a while in a perfect location that really does the piece justice only to have in the back of my mind, 'what if someone steals it before it gets chance to be seen?' I have done things on wooden walls and doors before and they have been gone by the morning! Don't expect things to stay around for ever but blimey

That is the most beautiful thing about it. One day its there and the next...bam....Like Keyser Soze...It should not be placed behind plastic. It should not be protected in any way. It is street art. The street changes. Banksy is doing work on walls that would mean you would have to remove a whole property or work protected by serious amounts of CCTV or on property such as the South Bank that ain't going no where. So a C215 got nicked....That has to be a compliment no? Listen, Im not one for shit being robbed of the street. But for one you can't moan about local Government property being stolen when it was graffed on illegally in the first place. I for one dont want to see the same work month after month. Charley gets out there. Banksy gets out there. Blu gets out there. IT IS FOR US ALL AND FOR US ALL TO LOSE. That is what makes it beautiful. Buy a print or original if you want it to remain.

C215 🇫🇷 Christian Guémy • Paris Street Art • Stencil Artr, by Stella Dore on Aug 2, 2008 21:08:20 GMT 1, I agree, the very nature of street art is its transitional - i'd be more worried about buffers or other writers than the thing being nicked by someone - that in itself is a new worry for the artist borne of our times, but then again at least the current climate means the artists can eat and pay for paint through their art rather than a check out job at safeway (morrisons, whatever)

C215 🇫🇷 Christian Guémy • Paris Street Art • Stencil Artr, by Oliver Winconek on Aug 2, 2008 21:14:44 GMT 1, It is interesting that this is now something that is creeping in to Artists minds and giving them something else to think about, I completely understand that street art is transitional but if it gets to the point where people are scouring the streets with a hacksaw out to make a quick buck then I can see some artists letting this decide the placement of their piece. Any Artist, street or otherwise creates work for people to view and it takes this away if the piece has completely disappeared shortly after it has been put up

Without a doubt. I hate to think of the people that make London look more interesting worrying about where to position that new stencil. Heres where...Everwhere. I still know of Banksy that could removed with a saw but I have no wish to remove it. However, I still hold no grudge against those that do. So they make some dollar. Who doesn't want to? I do, but if I removed it I would keep it, and I have no wish to as I like seeing it every other day. But you know what the crux is? Who is going to say its real. When on the street, its in the eye of the beholder. In 02, a Banksy was a Banksy. Now, who knows? Actually, thats bullshit because all the half arsed shit I have seen (EyeSaw) etc is terrible. Im sorry, but art is subjective and I like what I like. For me its Eine, Neate, Banksy, Faile, Invader, and without doubt my fav piece of graff was a chalked 'Brook Shields Alphabet'. Still dont know who that was. Thats what makes it great...What Im trying to say is lets keep London more and more interesting. Stuff comes. Stuff goes. Bah. There is always tomorrow.

Many do like it being stolen as it is deemed in demand. Sad but true. I know a few guys on this board who get up and pretend not to like their shit being robbed, but I tell you what. They will be on the phone to their friends telling them "This is what happens to Banksy." They LOVE it.

Completely agree, thats what I love about London, every time I come there is always something different to see that catches your eye, drives me mad when I forget to take a photo of something to show my girlfriend only to go back and its gone! I guess that teaches me to always have my camera with me

Aw thats kind of sad, I think we have all been there. I built this piece
entitled Nimby and put it up in Ashford, it lasted 3 months and people seemed to really like it, one day i was offered a large sum of money by a private collector to buy it, the next day i went to the site and it had gone! God knows how, it was life sized! 6 x 3 mtrs, built out of wood. I love to think that its in someones front room and they trip over it everytime the get up off the sofa

Is that real? what is it, paper on wood, and then placed in the field (of sorts)? or is it an altered photo?

100% real. Its hardboard, painted directly. Took about 5 weeks to make, my biggest project to date. I put it up in the middle of the night and next day had the radio on, people were txting and calling the 'jam line' to say an elephant was heading towards the road! Think the press thought it was a real elephant until they came down and saw it
