As far as the appropriation goes, this is from Rene's site:
I usually end up regreting saying anything about why I create certain things. But for shits and giggles here goes... (was directed to some chat online about this piece and wanted to shed some light) YES people this was taken from the reference below almost to a tee - and for good reason (artists always think their reasons are good BTW Around the time when Banksy and I used the same reference for the 'Praying Boy' I got to thinking just how crazy it was that we could get whatever image we wanted, whenever we wanted these days. Banksy and I obviously typed in 'praying boy' and got a good reference super quick and used it. So I got on google and typed in 'girl writing on wall' the reference below is the very first image that popped up. Which is why I chose it. I wanted to emphasize the laziness in this case. (although since googles image search revamp it shows up several pages down) So WA-LA 'Girl Writing On Wall'. It's a no brainer. Or brainer. Depending how you look at it.

The irony with this is after I had the idea and found the reference, I discovered Banksy had used the very same reference image years ago in a street stencil. Although his has a girl drawing a red heart on the wall... This irony further emphasized the point of why I created the image in the first place. Overlap is inevitable. Banksy had stumbled on the reference of the praying boy unaware I had used it already. And I had found and used this one unaware of his usage. We both agreed to try not to use images from the first results page anymore. And round and round we go...

For the record this was not inspired by or made to be a dig at MBW. This image was done on the street (as seen HERE) well before MBW's print of a girl spray painting the ground. People are often confused by HYPE. Check your sources before you point fingers about WHO is dissing WHO here.
