Rene Gagnon ๐บ๐ธ Graffiti Art โข Painting โข Art For Sale, by Deleted on Oct 15, 2014 21:29:28 GMT 1, I always liked this one: Maybe it's beyond my limited art critiquing abilities, but I don't get that at all. Like I said, if you don't like it, you don't like it. Not trying to convince you otherwise.
My only point I'm trying to make is that the plagiarism accusations are pretty unfounded and unfortunately what many people think of when they hear his name, while in actuality he's got a very long and respected career as a graf artist

Its good to know a bit of history on the artist to put things into context. I think what I myself immediately see is an artist furthering the already established status quo of stencil art and banksy genre.
Even if he was here first you would think he would have progressed that style into something else. I in no way saying he copied anyone, but still all his work looks familiar in a bad way for me. Nothing stands out as being new or progressive even in the genre. But its not just him I feel the same way about many of these artists.

His graff name was SNO...has been painting for a long, long time. Definitely did the praying boy before banksy and the graffiti soup spray can before MBW. He lives and has his studio about 15-20 minutes from where I live. I have always wanted to go by and check it out but have never worked it out with him. I know that he posts on here every once in a while as well.

Rene Gagnon ๐บ๐ธ Graffiti Art โข Painting โข Art For Sale, by Matt on Oct 15, 2014 22:00:04 GMT 1, I am sure he has been doing his thing (โฆ) and when I look at his work, it seems to me that he is the one copying and copying poorly at that... the flip side is that if people are copying him and gaining notoriety for it, then he can't be that good at what he does... In my opinion you have pinned it. He might have been doing stencils and Banksy like pieces before anyone else, but he lacked something as an artist to take center stage as Banksy did.
So now it doesn't matter if he copies to be on the bandwagon, or does it for tongue in cheek, or if he isn't seeking to copy at allโฆhe has de facto been cornered as a follower / crowd pleaser
dodcoquelicot you have certainly raised an interesting question !

How many times has the praying boy example been trotted out for what rene became??? Too many.
Banksy and rene ripped off a Google image and they both made terrible pieces from it. And that's the point it's not use of others work that's the issue, it's HOW it's used. Unfortunately rene tends to be incredibly cliched and underwhelming these days.
I did like his 911 piece though.
