HUSH London Solo Show - Innocence - 12th Nov, by urbanangel on Sept 30, 2009 13:48:18 GMT 1, Hushโs origins as a street artist continue to inform the medium of his contemporary work. His work demonstrates how he uses a very involved mixed media technique including painting, screen print, spray can and layering with paper. The infamous trademark of his female Manga image is complemented with pop art style females. Inspired by the portrayal of the female form in art, the artist builds up and tears down layers of paint and images as he works, โletting the canvas and marks take their own path.โ The result is an enigmatic synthesis of anime, pop-infused imagery and graffiti that exposes the conflict between power and decay, innocence and sexuality, and the fusion of Eastern and Western culture. Hush continues to evolve his style which merges his early anime and pop-art influenced graffiti tagging techniques with an exploration of Romanesque iconographic imagery. Hush is stimulated, influenced and driven by his cross cultural experiences. Having originally trained as a graphic designer and illustrator at Newcastle School of Art and Design, his work has taken him across Asia, Europe and the USA whilst simultaneously developing his prominence as a contemporary artist. Over the last few years, the demand for Hush's paintings has grown immense. With pieces in prestigious Auction Houses, Galleries, and small runs of hand finished prints selling out in seconds online and shipping to art collectors worldwide. Hush has the extraordinary ability to take numerous experiences โ personal and cultural - merge them together and create a unique signature style that is globally applauded. Many contemporary artists aspire to do this: only a few truly succeed. Hush now resides in the UK painting in his studio daily.

HUSH London Solo Show - Innocence - 12th Nov, by Deleted on Nov 3, 2009 16:50:45 GMT 1, I liked Hush in 2008. My Graf Geisha now resides in a portfolio and is unlikely to see a wall. I see zero development in style or content since, and feel that I have one of a hundred variations on a tired theme. I hoped for so much from this artist, and from the teasers I've seen, I am not holding out too much hope for this new show.
I predict Manga big eyed soft porn, a spattering of neo-classical statues some sprayed hearts and graf like squiggles.....in other words the same show again.
I hope I'm wrong.....

HUSH London Solo Show - Innocence - 12th Nov, by Happy Shopper on Nov 3, 2009 16:53:31 GMT 1, That print doesn't make me hopeful. More manga characters, tags, etc... There doesn't seem to be a clever thought behind it, just pretty graphics. IMO.

HUSH London Solo Show - Innocence - 12th Nov, by mookie on Nov 3, 2009 17:10:45 GMT 1, The preview image suggest something darker perhaps... how much can you develop manga images though? maybe this show will be something special.
Carl is a nice chap and I like some of his work but there are only so many of the same half naked chicks you can have on a wall... I hope this show takes his work to the next level.
I like blades and the original giesha tryptch on wood was stunning and I would never tire of looking @ that... but when I look through his flickr pages he made a pretty big jump from his work pre '08 but since that has not had many new ideas. Looking forward to the show dude!!!

HUSH London Solo Show - Innocence - 12th Nov, by Karl Read on Nov 4, 2009 13:03:07 GMT 1, Just seen the buyers preview pdf. Some lovely work, typical Hush. To be honest i prefered the work from the upper playground show but this is lovely too IMO. No originals in my price range i would go for but there will be 4 prints to be sold which should look great. Small editions too, not sure on the price though. Could be keen for one of those.

HUSH London Solo Show - Innocence - 12th Nov, by Zero Cool on Nov 4, 2009 13:54:46 GMT 1, Went around to Hush's studio yesterday to checkout the show and I was very impressed - people are going to say it's typical Hush because of the use of Asian imagery but that is what he does and his style and the way the imagery has been used has come on leaps and bounds - there are 3 predominantly white canvases which were outstanding in my opinion and the level of detail is incredible.
Looking forward to the 12th and seeing them hanging in the gallery!

HUSH London Solo Show - Innocence - 12th Nov, by Agent Provocateur on Nov 5, 2009 21:50:14 GMT 1, Have been perusing the preview pdf and there's a subtle shift in the feel of his work. Really refreshing to see the sketches above as well, in some ways the simpler rawness combined with the classic clean manga type imagery and the immediacy of the sketch show the undercurrents he's trying to get across in his work...
People may call that rollocks but I'm a fan so I'm biased
I'll get onto the olde discussion that many artists get about having to go to 'the next level' every show/year... but need a few more amber nectars before that
