Perry Rubenstein Gallery "Shred" FAILE - 1st July, by Francis on Jul 4, 2010 19:35:14 GMT 1, yeah, that shep fair is embarrassingly bad. i can see how it would have massive appeal with teenagers, but why would any adult want it? what cliche is he going to include in his art next? rise above? fight the power? form a revolution!?

Perry Rubenstein Gallery "Shred" FAILE - 1st July, by jamesreeve5 on Jul 6, 2010 9:06:23 GMT 1, Another way to look at Shep's work might be to see it as the acknowledgment of the disappearance of counterculture that coincided with the rise of the digital age.

haha... great comment!
And isn't Obey clothing line about one step away from being carried by hot topic? Maybe its me, but living in Southern CA I always see the biggest tools wearing Obey shirts. They buy them at Nordstroms with their True Religion jeans.

Perry Rubenstein Gallery "Shred" FAILE - 1st July, by tc on Jul 6, 2010 19:08:07 GMT 1, Went to the show. The Shep piece looks very different up close. Could prove to be a very good one. The Supine was also excellent...

Perry Rubenstein Gallery "Shred" FAILE - 1st July, by Passion Art on Jul 7, 2010 3:23:51 GMT 1, Supine just keeps raising the bar. This may be my favorite piece of his to date. I love the Faile image too. Love the muted colors.

Perry Rubenstein Gallery "Shred" FAILE - 1st July, by jamesreeve5 on Jul 7, 2010 20:07:31 GMT 1, Thanks to arrested motion I got to see pics of the show... The supine is good, but I'd have to see it in person because sometimes he has problems finishing his works.
This is the best piece in the show though:

Totally agree with Volvic, what a beautiful Faile!
Regarding Shepard Fairey, I'm becoming tired of his capitalist propaganda... at the end it's all about money, lots (and lots and lots) of prints (1/month?) without own imagery (some saying plagia), clothes to rise lot of cash, new works with old stencils, and he sells even the stencils (pretty expensive at his NY Show by the way).
Don't misunderstood me, I like Shepard Fairey's work, specialy all those with Angela Davis, Toxicity inspector, War by numbers and some of his last works (Basquiat on canvas is a pure beauty!) but at one point it's just too much... maybe without the clothing line...
It is just unfair, on one side, to use revolutionnary propaganda as art and on the other, use capitalism business to rise money with clothing line. At the end it's just usign revolution ideas (revolution is cool, people will buy) to rise money, kind of weerd.

Perry Rubenstein Gallery "Shred" FAILE - 1st July, by jones27 on Jul 8, 2010 17:18:22 GMT 1, I think Shepard Fairey is the most over hyped artist. Fairplay to him for milking it.
