It truly heartens me to know people are so easily fooled into thinking that this somehow helps make the world a better place.

This sort of thing goes on from all directions in society  and each person feels they are right to do so  knocking each other as if its ok for them to do it, but totally out of order if they get it in return.

of course it also needs to be remembered that there maybe sections of society that are rightfully aggrieved and also those that are in power remember they have responsibilty to ALL those in the nation rather than just those with the loudest voice (i.e. money/power/social standing)

Any company that buys a building and wishes to develop it with permissions should do so. Where were all these objectors when the "holiday inn" came to old street.
