Judith Supine ๐บ๐ธ Brooklyn NY Street Art โข For Sale, by b1470 on Dec 20, 2012 9:26:23 GMT 1, Thanks. I emailed them today and they said there's more that haven't been picked up by the postal yet. Thats why theres no shipping details yet. I'm hoping there's no problems. Ive came up empty before on another print release. Such an awesome print though.
Mine arrived today still smelling freshly pulled! Was not quick enough to be in the first ten, so perhaps the fact yours has not been shipped may be a good sign? Best of luck...

Judith Supine ๐บ๐ธ Brooklyn NY Street Art โข For Sale, by maadbeats on Jan 13, 2013 16:13:27 GMT 1, Moving in just under a month so need to give up a lot of stuff. I have these two small Judith Supine Mini OG's that I think its best to pass along before they get lost in the shuffle of the move. Was planning to frame these together because matches and a pack of smokes go hand in hand. Wanted to do a metal box frame and have two posts that would be blind highlighting the two pieces. The pack of matches came from papermonster as I was one of the ones to receive the free gift. the pack of newports came from a gallery show at Fuse Gallery and comes w/COA. Looking for offers around $1k for the set

Judith Supine ๐บ๐ธ Brooklyn NY Street Art โข For Sale, by ilmambo on Jan 15, 2013 10:23:52 GMT 1, โI am disgusted and bored with and by street art,โ he tells. โAt one point in my life I was in love with its illegal nature and outsider stature โ I loved the aggression and physical violence towards other artists, the destruction of property and thrill of evading the police. Now I detest the comradeship of s**t graphic designers โ the sanctioned murals. Street makes me think of emails, posh British t**ts, and the selling of my soul. It was a good way to mask suicidal behaviour โ climbing on bridges drunk, taking pills and swimming in riversโฆ Now the outside stuff feels like advertising and the indoor art has become slower and more contemplative and rewarding.โ from: www.sarahjaynefell.com/writing/judith-supine/
-----------------
BSA: So, you wouldnโt want to associate yourself with shitty graphic design and a bunch of derivative stuff? JS: (laughing) What I like about Street Art is the feeling of the transgressive part of it and the illegal nature of it. Thatโs whatโs exciting to me about it. You know, what qualifies as street art now is like legal murals and that shit just seems kind of boring to me. Itโs kind of just like in the style ofโฆ it just kind of loses its power.
BSA: Well, thatโs because itโs art whose installation has been approved. Thereโs no risk involved, it isnโt transgressive. Youโre not breaking any rules. JS: Not that thereโs really a lot of risk involved anyway. Itโs like fucking jaywalking, or something. You know, or maybe more. I mean on a daily basis, especially while using drugs, I was breaking more laws doing other shit that I could get in a lot more trouble for. Itโs really not a big deal. Itโs fucking slap on the wrist.
BSA: Some people have said that theyโve had really bad experiences when theyโve been arrested. JS: Yeah, I donโt know. Iโm still interested in doing things out doors. I guess it still needs to be illegal for me, for it to be fun.
BSA: To get you hard. JS: Yeah, and I donโt have very much interest in putting up wheat pastes and posters โ so maybe more site-specific sculptures โ itโs kind of more interesting to me, more exciting. Iโm more like excited about how to like plan something and get away with it than, a lot of times, the actual final result.
BSA: So itโs like the process of the heist. Planning the logistics, executing the plan.. JS: Yeah, that part is intriguing to me. Itโs not anything really exciting about walking around fucking gluing some Xerox to the wall. Itโs pretty simple to do it and not get caught.
BSA: I wonder if there is an age element involved with the โfun-nessโ of this? JS: Probably. I donโt know what I want to do. Iโd probably like to stay home and fucking read a book.

But then this has happened to all art forms that start from within the soul of 'performers' - the end result is diluted and sanitised for commercial and mainstream purposes. It was always going to happen.
The trick is to move on and don't let the idiots win. Stay one step ahead and have belief in your work because work that has soul will always rise to the top.

Judith Supine ๐บ๐ธ Brooklyn NY Street Art โข For Sale, by Deleted on Jan 15, 2013 11:19:11 GMT 1, Totally agree with the statement...
That's why I posted a thread about a real street activist who risked his life spraypainted, who was arrested more than once, who was named "person of the year" by Global Post (amongs Lassange, Psy and Clinton), who won the Price Claus Fund Awards in 2012 and did a graffiti in front of Royal Palace in Netherlands, who was named as one of the most prenominent activist person in Africa by CNN... - urbanartassociation.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=africa&thread=102065&page=1
And yesterday, the same guy had a surprise visit from Eric Schmidt, Google Executive, who had the chance to see the graffiti artists and discuss with the guy about the future !!
************** So the question is, can you name it ?? No, you can't because not a single street-art blog/mag spoke about it !!!
I shouted on FB, tagged some street-art mags/news/blogs... I even send emails to big blogs like Wooster... and nobody has expressed interest into the story !!!
And as you can see above, I had posted a thread on this forum, not much interest neither
*************** No, tell me last time a graffiti artist won prestigious awards and/or name "People of the Year" for doing graffitis... or got visit of guy like Google CEO

Judith Supine ๐บ๐ธ Brooklyn NY Street Art โข For Sale, by Coach on Jan 15, 2013 11:55:27 GMT 1, I agree to an extent (I'm not trying to protect any "investment" DD), but it is something of a broad generalisation. There is plenty of exciting, non sales based, non commissioned street art popping up all over the place. A quick look at the pictures posted by mikey and formula attest to this - one of the reasons I regularly thank them both for the pics. Their contribution helps keep this site worthwhile imo. Whilst what JS says may be completley true of his own experiences (caused by his popularity caused in turn by his huge talent) and of his peers, it isn't true (I believe) of many (granted, not all) other street artists - once again as seen in the pics posted on here by MD and F. The posh British twats bit made me laugh tho!

It sounds to me as if he is writing what you want to hear and you are falling for it.
Who forced him to stop wild street work, who forced him I to galleries. That's his and other artists choice. Some use street/graf so that they can break into the scene and make money fair enough. Some age and develop and see that as part of their development etc. Same as I do not live the same or think the same as I did when younger and I do not want to although think back to some of those wild times I had etc and yes would love to be that age again but can't and I have changed but my choices same as his.
As mentioned they may not be as famous but still lots of people doing street/Graf who will not do prints or make it to the galleries by either choice or or not as the case may be.
Some of the events and walls allow artists to produce huge high quality pieces which I think are great but also love the MDread and Formula pics which go up weekly and often daily just in London of a real mix of street/Graf work and this is happening in just about every major City in the world. Beijing, Hong Kong it's still a major crime if your caught its not of the same level but it is happening.
So all the not the same as it was ......... Is surely the point wouldn't it be boring if it was just the same as it was then.

Judith Supine ๐บ๐ธ Brooklyn NY Street Art โข For Sale, by Harveyn on Jan 15, 2013 12:26:20 GMT 1, I guess I see street art as having two main reasons why it is important in my life. It may be that the second evolved out of the first but to be honest that does matter to me.
I think Judith's comments relate to his experience and I agree that he needs to turn that to his advantage. He looks to be doing just that.
So for me street art represents two modes of existence.
Mode 1 and as per Judith's world. The face of rebellion and anarchy. A political and/or social commentary that does not just involve aggression and violence but often humour and satire. Often raw and edgy. I think this still very much exists and the fact that anyone individual has moved away this point is just as much about their acceptance to let that happen as any commercial or external manipulation. I would also say that changing direction is neither a good or bad thing just something different. I would guess for some individuals that having moved in a new direction reflection on the past may even be a positive experience rather than one of compromise.
Mode 2 is the graffiti whose purpose (maybe not it's sole purpose) is to enrich, captivate and enthrall its local community. To take the viewer on a journey away from troubled thoughts and for an instant enhance their life's. It still might stimulate debate or simply silent contemplation. It does not need to be illegal to achieve these deliverables and as I said it might just be part of the evolution but I am pretty sure for some it was the starting point. I guess OS Gemeos and ROA would be examples that come to mind.

*yawn*
having reconsidered, it's an interesting point he raises and one that sand defines well, what has been created? And what do 'we' all revolve around? It certainly isn't a love for the street, and to tell you the truth although I appreciate mikeys pic's and wk's on instagram it reinforces the fact alot of illegal work really doesn't cut it...most likely this is because my view is tainted by knowledge and expectations that just aren't happening as I hoped. JS sounds like he's getting old too and prefers the quiet life of the studio away from the bs and being tolds he's great for getting up, which for a time at least seemed to be enough for most artists...

***** But if it is a one-time statement posted one year ago, then he may be excused
At least he is not CONTINUOUSLY ranting about copycats and calling them names on public page like monkey or stupid ignorant... or calling gallerists moneysuckers... or dubbing bloggers/mediators as irrelevant critics who turns artists into products !
He is not claiming that he want to stay free and independent against all kind of censorship from greedy galleries, journalists, critics, local lobbies.... while at the same time, posting hundreds of pictures on social media, doing plenty of interviews and exhibition (some good, some bad) and bashing comments - who differ from the usual "Great stuff" - by publicly insulting commentator... and applying censorship himself as an happy dictator.

(you know who you are)
"He" is NOT reading those threads in here ;-)

So now there is lots of illegal work it just does not meet your expectation.........not sure many artists will care about that.......which is the point really

Judith Supine ๐บ๐ธ Brooklyn NY Street Art โข For Sale, by Deleted on Jan 15, 2013 15:13:58 GMT 1, Is this the same Judith Supine who has done a green face figure for about 10 years and running now? The same guy who just released a print through Paper Monster which is owned by Faile, the same s**t graphic designers who he detest the comradeship of? The same guy who wheat-pastes on walls? What sculpture is he referring to? I hope not the wheat-pastes he's done on wood and hung around or floated in water. My friend those are no sculptures.
Keep popping those pills bro.

What a cockend - so he's saying he only did it for the thrills and now its not fun?! why doesn't he just do drugs, clamp an electrode to his balls, tweet accusations about people been pedos whilst he sticks floursent pictures on his bathroom wall then? where's then drive and passion, the need to to express his voice and interaction with society? surely thats why people make art in the street? Commerce is something else and shit crap is crap. If he did have something too say he's giving a very mixed up message.
Can't help feeling that in the last part he's decided Banksy is big because of the 'stunts' he pulls and he's (JS) is doing his PR before the new radical work/journey he's about to embark on (not).

Judith Supine ๐บ๐ธ Brooklyn NY Street Art โข For Sale, by Passion Art on Jan 16, 2013 16:54:59 GMT 1, Having spoke to JS a bunch I think his statement is being misunderstood. He's tired of the make a paster, paste it up thing. I don't think that means he's done with street work for good. I think it means he wants to raise the bar with street art, or it's not worth it. I must say, I agree. With the exception of the OGs (Bast, Faile, Cost, etc.) I am totally unimpressed by 99% of pasters I see in NYC. They all seem derivative of the OGs work and don't inspire me at all.

Pretty funny because I just said basically the same thing to a buddy of mine who was giving praise to a bunch of these newer street artists here in NYC. It seemed to me that 2011 was pretty slow for bigger artists in NYC and all these clones popped up and got blog/fair love because of the lack of quality work being put up. Almost all of the new stuff you see on the street in NYC are copies of older work from more established artists. The street art scene in Brooklyn has been horrible. Lots of lower level galleries pushing these new artists to the new collector market of urban art. The artists that to me are putting out quality work in no real order. Supine, Dain, Rae, Bast, Faile, ElbowToe. The other 500 Pratt students that are running to kinkos and throwing up Photoshop pastes all over the place are just garbage.
But I guess everyone thinks they can be the next Mr Brainwash :/
