I'm aware of that but all the elephants are in public spaces as far as I know. It could have been Selfridges or it could have been Covent Garden. It was always going to get banned.

I think that by asking Yeo to do one of these elphants the organisers can have expected him to use porn cut outs of some sort. I also think it's pretty predictable that putting this porn covered element in any public space was likely to cause complaints and controversy and everyone involved would have known this.

It's a symbiotic relationship where both Yeo and the charity get some free publicity from the stunt. This will increase the desirability of the piece and it'll raise some extra cash when auctioned off which is the main thing for both the charity and artist. Good luck to them.

Lazarides is delighted to announce the solo exhibition of Jonathan Yeo. The third show in the temporary Beverly Hills space will be Yeo’s most ambitious exhibition to date and promises to be one of tantalizing surprises.

Jonathan Yeo was born in London in 1970. The son of a former Conservative minister, he was never formally trained at art school, instead he taught himself how to paint in his early 20’s while recovering from lymphatic cancer.

Celebrated for his skillfully oil-painted portraits of famous subjects, he rose to prominence for his iconic portrayals of subjects as diverse as Nicole Kidman, Prince Philip, Grayson Perry, Erin O'Connor, Rupert Murdoch, Dennis Hopper and Minnie Driver, which are frequently exhibited at the National Portrait Gallery in London. His depiction of Tony Blair became an internationally recognized image of the former Prime Minister with his blood red poppy alluding to the loss of UK troops in the Iraq war.

In 2007, Yeo's work took a new direction when the White House reneged on a commission for him to paint a portrait of President George W. Bush. He went ahead with the picture anyway, creating a collaged likeness out of hardcore pornographic magazines. The image was unveiled at Lazarides London in August 2007 and immediately became notorious around the world.

Yeo has continued to explore the possibilities of collage and has immortalized a series of Twenty-First Century icons including Lucian Freud, Hugh Hefner and Paris Hilton. He has also created original images featuring nudes and botanical studies, the beauty of which contradict their source material.

The visual trickery of collage allows Yeo to deceive the viewer as the explicit tone is disregarded at first glance, yet on closer inspection the realization that the perfect flesh tones are in fact flesh writhing in passion.

This exhibition features his newest and most provocative works to date, including some surprising new portraits and a version of his controversial wallpaper design unveiled recently at the new Soho House members-only club in West Hollywood.

PM David Cameron and Tory chums celebrate new age of austerity with lavish party


David Cameron and his rich Tory chums will toast the bloodbath Budget hammering the poor at a lavish ­champagne party where ­the CHEAPEST ticket costs £450.

The ConDem PM and his Chancellor George Osborne will be the star turns at the glitzy ball, which was last night angrily condemned by Labour MPs.

It will be held at an exclusive London venue days after Osborne delivered his “austerity” Budget, which hits low-earners ­hardest – and hands a business tax cut to the fatcats on the guest list.

Organisers have lined up 432 bottles of champagne – more than one each for the 400 guests, who will include City financiers and Tory donors. The event is expected to raise more than £1million for Conservative party funds.

The wealthy guests will enjoy a feast fit for a king as they tuck into roasted cod with chorizo risotto, followed by gooseberry and champagne cheesecake with fine French wines at the Royal Hospital Gardens in Chelsea.

Furious Labour MPs last night ­condemned the “breathtaking ­arrogance” of the Tories in staging the opulent event as millions of Britons reel from the harshest Budget in 70 years, with savage cuts in public sector pay and welfare benefits, as well as a crippling VAT rise to 20 per cent.

Senior Labour MP Tom Watson last night attacked Mr Osborne for failing to live up to his pre-Budget promise that “we are all in this together.”

Mr Watson said: “I can’t imagine there will be any worried pensioners or ­frightened families at this event. ­Clearly, we are not all in this together.

“Holding this lavish ball days after the toughest measures in any Budget ever just shows the breathtaking ­arrogance of the ­Tories.”

Many of the high-rollers at the event will be wealthy donors from City hedge funds and investment banks – blamed by many experts for sparking financial meltdown and driving us into recession.

Invitations were sent out by Charlotte Rogers, head of events in the office of Tory Treasurer and controversial City businessman Michael Spencer.

Rich Tory backers can buy one ticket for an eye-watering £450, pay £4,500 for a table for 10, buy a “benefactor” ticket at £1,000 or blow £10,000 for a de luxe table for ten.

Events company The Ultimate Experience has put up marquees so publicity-shy donors can keep a low profile as they ­party.

The main marquee has a spacious reception area, overlooking a private garden with its own outdoor bar.

The company also boasts that the dining area is fully-floored and ­carpeted with hand-made materials, and features “atmospheric lighting”.

After quaffing their way through 432 bottles of Laytons Brut champagne, guests can guzzle Val Colombe Syrah Vin de Pays d’Oc 2009 red wine and De Chansac Sauvignon 2009 white wine. The drinks bill alone is likely to be about £18,000.

The starter for the three-course meal – estimated to cost about £86 a head – will be “air-dried” ham and ­buffalo mozzarella with roasted fig and balsamic dressing.

Vegetarians will be offered chargrilled artichoke instead of the ham.

The main course will be roasted cod with red pepper crumble, served with chorizo risotto and broad beans with basil oil.

Vegetarians can opt for twice-baked smoked Applewood cheese ­souffle with sunblushed tomatoes, basil cream and roasted baby onions.

If guests have room for dessert they can tuck into gooseberry and champagne cheesecake.

The ball will also include the ­traditional fundraising auction.

At previous events party ­backers have coughed up as much as £250,000 to be highest ­bidder. One year a guest paid a whopping £14,000 for eight people to shoot ­pheasant and partridge. Another bidder paid more than £200,000 for a portrait of David Cameron by the ­artist Jonathan Yeo.

Very jealous. I've seen the work and there are some superb pieces; Yeo's definitely stepped it up a gear for this so it'll be interesting to see how it goes down over there.
