The main piece is going in a perspex box - his choice - after seeing how misterframeman has done a Denning original for me. And most of all - THANKS Jef - king amongst men. Peace c

Jef Aerosol π«π· Stencil Street Art , by Heavyconsumer on Jun 16, 2008 17:30:51 GMT 1, What! Seeing the stencil for the boots really adds to my respect and appreciation for the pieces/end products, which I already liked a lot. I can't imagine how the paper doesn't rip and tear while you're working on the finer details. My guess is that you have to cut sections in a fairly specific order to avoid destroying the stencil and starting again.

Jef Aerosol π«π· Stencil Street Art , by Jef Aerosol on Jun 16, 2008 20:42:00 GMT 1, well... not really ! No specific order... it's only cutting what has to be cut, just need to be patient and precise and a bit of experience, but nothing really complicated... Have a try some day and you'll see it quite simple, really ! (oops, I guess I shouldn't say such things ! lol !)

Jeff, as others have said, you are a very talented man! And you say it's quite simple really....for you maybe!!! Keep up the great work, hopefully someday in the not too distant future I'll have an Aerosol on my wall! (Next to the other aerosol's that are family and friends)

Jef Aerosol π«π· Stencil Street Art , by Jef Aerosol on Jun 17, 2008 12:04:31 GMT 1, I only recently heard of "laser cutting" here on this forum ! Sounds crazy ! I've stuck to my good old cutters and card since 82 and don't think I'll change... And the cutting is a step I enjoy a lot, so I won't let a "laser" steal that pleasure from me !
Moron, to answer your question : you're talking about the doc Marten painting, aren't you ? The first layer is the whole silhouette (black), then I paint the second layer (dark grey), then the third layer (light grey), then the fourth layer (white), then I had a fifth layer for just a few details in black. (in the two photos above, you can see the dark grey and the light grey stencils)

Jef Aerosol π«π· Stencil Street Art , by Jef Aerosol on Jun 17, 2008 12:11:32 GMT 1, About intricate cutting and multi layered stencils : I've often stated it here but am repeating that for me the technical side, skill and intricacy should never be priorities. Cutting a complex stencil for the sake of its complexity is pointless. I sometimes cut very simple one or two layer stencils (especially for my life size street stencils) and the only target is the effect they produce, the feelings they express, the emotions they convey... Some very simple stencils are extremely strong and powerful and impressive while some incredibly intricate ones just don't "work" ... When I cut more complex stencils, it's always because I want to achieve some specific effect, not to show some "ability"... An image should impress with its contents, not with the way it was realized. And, once again, I'd also like to stress the fact that for me emotion is more important than message...

Jef Aerosol π«π· Stencil Street Art , by Jef Aerosol on Jul 24, 2008 23:05:59 GMT 1, thanks mates ! I cut the stencil last night from a self portrait I took a while ago, arm stretched ! (Same series as the "blurting out the truth" one, for those who know those pieces of mine), the bird was cut last week (it's the second one, the first one being the Robin some of you may have seen on some of my paintings)... I guess there will be some more little robins and sparrows to come (to make a change from the pigeons ! ) I painted the deck this morning and it's going to Atlanta tomorrow ! First one i ever did, but made me want to paint some more...
