Banksy "Robot" Torquay, Devon, by Guy Denning on Oct 21, 2010 9:00:23 GMT 1, Mmm... strokes beard... I think it's a comment on the contemporary crisis of society's increasing dehumanisation of childhood, where the victim becomes so disassociated from his own humanity that he actually moves beyond aspiring to emulate his object of external desire and creates his own god-figure. Man making god in his own image. Or it's a robot on a wall. Or BANKSY's retired and gone to Torquay to live.

Banksy "Robot" Torquay, Devon, by Guy Denning on Oct 21, 2010 9:52:57 GMT 1, Pensioners! moaners more like!. Have you noticed the divide and rule tactics of the government? Hit the poor, low paid and unemployed but try to avoid your core vote (the pensioners). I was at a demo this week in Morlaix against Sarko's pension proposals. There were thousands there and those already receiving pensions were out supporting the protest too. A bit of solidarity - I hope that the spirit for a fight makes it across the channel. As a lifelong unionist I spent years trying to whip up public enthusiasm for protest against all government injustices - generally to face public apathy. Hopefully we'll see some agenda driven street art raising its head. Make a noise - make a mess...

Banksy "Robot" Torquay, Devon, by Daniel Silk on Oct 22, 2010 20:51:30 GMT 1, Its great that this Banksy piece will give Torquay a bit of a boost in visitors, especially at the end of what I guess is their main tourist season.

Banksy "Robot" Torquay, Devon, by robinbanks on Oct 27, 2010 16:01:39 GMT 1, "it was accredited by the local rep for the Banksy Society - Irene!!!"
Ok, couple of questions...
1. Since when has there been a Banksy Society and how does one go about joining such a group???
2. And, more importantly, how the hell did a woman called Irene get appointed as the local representative for Torquay???

Banksy "Robot" Torquay, Devon, by tobaum on May 30, 2011 15:18:05 GMT 1, 'It looks like I've lost not only £700 in protecting the work but the £150,000 I'm told it was worth,'
Well he seems more sad about the money lost than the art lost. I'm not even sure the artwork might be valuated at £150,000, specially on a £1.5million hotel. It's not like he would cut the wall to sell the artwork and if he planed to sell the hotel, a £ 150,000 artwork on an estimated £ 1.5 million hotel does not make any difference. Potential buyer will buy the hotel not the artwork.
And a nightclub called Banksy? In a £1.5million hotel? Com'on!

maybe all is not what it seems and the vandalisation was competition between artits. By the sound of it we'll see tape babies popping up around torquay soon!

Banksy "Robot" Torquay, Devon, by Warm Gun on May 30, 2011 17:30:49 GMT 1, It doesn't look like paint stripper has been poured on it, more like it's been painted on and the image scrubbed. It would just be a running mess if it had been poured behind the perspex.
