Byroglyphics 'Domestic Science' at Signal, by jfury on May 23, 2009 14:02:54 GMT 1, Not really sure on the issue here, Russ Mills stuff has always been digital that is what he does. I think there very nice pieces and they clearly appeal judging by the amount sold. Nice one Russ and nice one Signal.

To clarify. Russ hand-draws and paints much of his material, then scans them into his computer. He collages these elements digitally to make the stunning and beautiful results we see. As Jfury says, this is how he has always worked - apart from the relatively few acrylic paintings he has done in the past.

Byroglyphics 'Domestic Science' at Signal, by dotdot on May 23, 2009 15:34:39 GMT 1, I like Russ' stuff - never done here anyone any harm - yeah i remember clearly the hype surrounding the small runs he occasionally releases... now here we,perhaps needlessly, have a little bit of fear uncertainty and doubt - I'm surprised to hear that and slightly disappointed.
suppose i shouldn't be - just think less of of the sources .. thats ol.
FUD = bad HYPE = bad
let the work speak for itself - not anyone else ! pretty simple really KISS not SNAFU

Byroglyphics 'Domestic Science' at Signal, by snelj8 on May 23, 2009 18:39:07 GMT 1, those who think they are overpriced, arent there prints out there that go for as much if not more? what makes those pieces more worth it if judging pieces as just being printouts?
we should let the pictures speak for themselves, anyone take pics at the show?

Byroglyphics 'Domestic Science' at Signal, by Standard on May 23, 2009 20:28:36 GMT 1, I don't understand the fuss?
Would it be more artistic if he cut out a cardboard stencil and rattle canned his work? Is there such a skill difference between the results? The work that Russ produces is fresh, very sharp, distinctive and is simply using the tools of the times, rather nicely I may add.
Are we not at risk of falling foul of the same stuff that the blinkered critics of Banksy harp on about? Do we question why Banksy uses a rattle can and a cardboard cut out over how Matisse skillfully used paint on the tip of a brush? If the end results are pleasant and approving to the eye, why the hell question how the artist got to the result?
If you don't like it don't buy it, if you do then do......! Some people go crazy over a simple but effective stencil that is reproduced in print but then pull faces at an artist who uses a Mac, biro ink, paint, digital manipulation and then prints the result on an 1 of 1 canvas!!!!!! Not to mention that he throws out a very small run of his prints for ยฃ25!!
If Banksy started releasing prints that where completely of digital origin you lot would be tripping over each other.
step out of the box.

Byroglyphics 'Domestic Science' at Signal, by notworthit on May 23, 2009 22:34:13 GMT 1, just my 2c worth.
I love Russ's work and have several prints of his already.
However...
I don't quite get these either, they look great, up to, if not surpassing his normal standard of work, but yeah, prints?
I'd like to know the difference in process between the pieces at signal and this acrylic PAINTING at Red Propeller?
redpropeller.co.uk/photo_2787173.html
Anyone?

Byroglyphics 'Domestic Science' at Signal, by Standard on May 24, 2009 9:16:02 GMT 1, As far as I know Russ has only ever produced a handful of those acrylic paintings, including the one that the recent burger print was taken from. Most of his work to date has been done in the same way as the work at the recent show.
