Ron English ๐บ๐ธ Popaganda โข Pop Culture โข Toys, by rachel koper on May 27, 2008 21:30:39 GMT 1, I've had a recent Ron English painting here at Gallery Lombardi in Austin. It was very well painted, with a very smooth finish. He's very polished and professional. Even his signiture is legible. ha.
English used to live here years ago. I've heard stories about him being in a rollerskating gang from Dallas. These 'urban animals' back in the early 80s came to Austin to skate parking garages and make urban art. His billboards from that time are still talked about around here. Some army recruitment bill boards were especially funny and remain legendary.
I was stoked to see his work showing in London, I certainly consider him an early pracitioner of the street art movement in Texas and he's an amazingly clever artist all around.
