guy denning at Red Propeller, by Guy Denning on Jul 20, 2007 15:45:22 GMT 1, Right then... I've been inundated with requests for work and emails of interest and general support from a lot of users of this board, which has been absolutely fantastic. There is however a fly in the ointment. I don't think it's appropriate that I get involved in commentary over my work but something has happened today that I feel I should address. This will be the only time that I will get involved on this board in talking about the selling of my work so I'll take my time and say it all in one go. There has been a huge rush in demand for my work. This is extremely flattering but it has caused some problems. First of all, Le Tunnadine of Tunnadine Fine Art has been subject to some extremely vitriolic emails on a couple of counts. No doubt the accusations made are due to bad experiences at the hands of other galleries that these board members have experienced. I would like to make it clear that Tunnadine Fine Art is a dealer and not a gallery. She has supported me over the last seven or more years when she was putting money in to my work and receiving virtually nothing back. She does not have an exploitative bone in her body and I have full faith in her as a dealer. The four drawings placed on ebay belonged to a third party that saw an opportunity to make a quick return. Le offered to take control of this auction to monitor it and to make sure any queries were answered sensibly. You will have noticed that there have been no more ebay auctions from Tunnadine, despite the fact that she has work of mine to sell on behalf of other collectors. The second issue is over an accusation of her raising prices and not selling available work. The four galleries that deal with my work are working closely together to maintain a degree of consistency and parity with pricing. Please understand that only a month ago my work was selling for a rate that basically returned me the equivalent of the national minimum wage for the work put into the pieces. Some people have got bargains, and others are now paying prices that relate to a sensible living to myself (after twenty years of scratching by with an assortment of crap jobs). Le Tunnadine has been receiving upwards of 30 requests a day for work. People express an interest but don't commit. There is only a minimal amount of available original work. She is selling the work to the first person that commits and is NOT trading one off against the other. If you have not been successful in getting a piece it is not because she is sat on a pile of originals waiting for the price to rise. Because of the pressure she has been under she has decided to take a lower profile in the selling of my work, leaving the main dealers as Red Propeller and Art-file. This upsets me somewhat as Le is the person who has had the faith in my work the longest - but that's the decision she has made. So - if you feel that you have been treated unfairly, I can assure you that it is not the case. It is generally the result of discovering an artist who is a forty odd year old fart and has all sorts of older work in all kinds of locations when they suddenly become popular. So be patient, normal service will resume and thankyou all for your support and stuff...
cheers
G

Really glad that after what sounds like a long struggle your finding a market for your work..(I bought the screaming head original) absolutely loving your recent work and wait expectantly for new stuff - enjoy your success

guy denning at Red Propeller, by alderevans2007 on Jul 20, 2007 16:10:08 GMT 1, Hi Guys,
I have never sent Tunnadine any "extremely vitriolic emails", although I did call Tunnadine unproffessional for putting the pieces straight on ebay. I jumped to conclusions and I fully take back what I said and apologise to Tunnadine Gallery.
Guy, well done on your recent success and good luck!

guy denning at Red Propeller, by a4mnt on Jul 20, 2007 16:26:26 GMT 1, Guy - Hope the threads on here have made interesting and encouraging reading for you. I've just got three pieces from Le and she was great, very professional.
As you say, some of us have got bargains, and maybe the ones that didn't aren't happy, but most people can see that your work is now attracting the type of prices it should be for original canvasses and prints.
Most of us are also looking forward to the next batch and wish you well with that and the move. Enjoy the success and we'll get saving for whatever's next.
