So who bought a Guy Denning then?, by a4mnt on Jul 16, 2007 21:26:01 GMT 1, Alder - i think poor old Guy has probably got a few of us mailing him
Those heads on ebay were not his ideal way of his work selling - i'm not even sure if they were sold by the gallery or via the gallery for another collector.
His prices have definitely been effected by hyping his stuff, i along with a few people have been beavering away on here and the other side. Its quite interesting seeing it happen. I know Guy is finding it quite difficult to comprehend after he has been, as he puts it, a struggling artist for 20 years, and i personally think its brilliant to see someones work taking off from the start. I've listened to enough people who bought every signed banksy going for ยฃ100 3 years ago and have been so jealous, and while i'm not comparing guy to that, its nice to see even the smallest increases as we've seen in what has seemed like a long week since we started talking about him last Sunday. In that time all his available originals got snapped up, Tunnadine hiked up prices and ยฃ80 paper originals sold for 5 times that price.
Oddly enough, Guy says that he started receiving a lot of interest from overseas before we started hyping him, so something happened somewhere.
As for future prices, well I think that will depend on the quality of his next set of originals and also the price they are sold at. He has been handed a massive workload, so lets hope he creates some stunning pieces and works at his own rate, not the galleries.
Personally I think those items on ebay are way too much. Considering what carlito paid for Screaming head original and also considering that I bought a 1mx1m aerosol on steel for ยฃ300, then those prices do seem steep, but we'll see. Hey, the power of the forum hey?

extremely well put! wish i has got myself one now - iv been looking for an original on sheet steel or similar for ages from a number of artists, but i didnt latch onto the GUY thread until it was too late,
i think if the gallery were selling the originals on ebay via the request of a third party owner then they could do with making it known as this doesnt exactly do wonders for their rep! be interesting to know the facts!!!

So who bought a Guy Denning then?, by carlito on Jul 16, 2007 21:35:57 GMT 1, selling Guy's work on Ebay as a result of increased interest seems at best a very odd decision....
seeing as Guy as has been struggling for the last twenty years, i hope this success sticks and he see's most of the money .. looking at his work from the last 3 years he's shown some great progression and his next set should be up there too.. I just hope I can afford one of them

So who bought a Guy Denning then?, by alderevans2007 on Jul 16, 2007 22:05:03 GMT 1, Has anybody actually bought the Giclees from Red Propeller? I am so tempted by the Minotaur Woman, but the price seems a bit hefty for what you get. But then again, the Red Propeller Giclees are very good quality and it's one of his best images imo. ......yes, no?
Anyone got one they can recommend?

So who bought a Guy Denning then?, by a4mnt on Jul 16, 2007 22:27:25 GMT 1, Dave from RP told me that Guy considered Minotaur Woman to be his best work, so much so that I think he has kept the original canvas.
So yeah, buy one!
Then put pics up ;D

I really like Thus Replulse. It was my first choice til I saw Prospero's storm. I had the choice of everything on RP except Screaming head original (which isn't a canvas anyway), and went for PS. But I like Thus Repulse a lot and am surprised its not been sold.
Hello f**ker was ยฃ695. 33x50cm oil, conte and chalk on newsprint. This makes my canvas look like a steal, even though this is a great and stronger image. Apparently the newsprint pieces will be around this price.
This might give us some idea of future prices. I doubt canvasses will be as cheap as they were. So Thus Repulse could be the last of the bargains.
Got this little beauty from Tunnadine for ยฃ70 - framed triptych - mixed media on paper :
There are still some originals available as well : www.tfa.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/artists/pdf_files/guy_denning_2004_5.pdf www.tfa.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/artists/pdf_files/guy_denning_2006.pdf
