What Music are you listening to at the moment ?, by Coach on May 2, 2021 12:06:21 GMT 1, Stumbled across these guys first EP early last year and can't believe the quality of the musicianship and vocals. "The Harlem Gospel Travelers are not from Harlem. They came to Harlem, however, from far-flung corners of the five boroughs of New York City, and it was in Harlem, that legendary center of African-American culture, that they found their voices. As members of the music education program Gospel For Teens, these young men spent many hours on the subway or the bus to ultimately end up at an unassuming brownstone on W. 126th Street. They walked through the red door at the parlor level, the one with the cross on it, and inside they found a world of music. Gospel music. As their teacher, my job was less to impart information, and more to show these talented young men what they already knew. They already knew how to sing, that much was obvious, but it was here that they learned what their voices could really do and how to use them. We listened to the music of the masters: The Soul Stirrers, The Swan Silvertones, The Violinaires and The Swanee Quintet, and these young men, really boys at the time, soaked it all in. They quickly moved from imitation to creation, writing their own songs and building original arrangements of traditional material from the ground up. They honed and tightened their harmonies. They learned when to shout and when to whisper. What you have before you is the distillation of all their hard work -- the first full-length album from The Harlem Gospel Travelers
Cripes, that’s some voice he’s got! Enjoyed that, thanks.

What Music are you listening to at the moment ?, by curiousgeorge on May 4, 2021 0:35:03 GMT 1, I’m a drummer so can’t listen to anything without focussing upon the most most important part - the rhythm section. This is musicianship at it’s finest. The way the bass player takes it to the edge and then pulls back, the triplet drum fills, Bobby Kimball playing a piano stool. You can see why they were handpicked by Quincy Jones to work with Michael Jackson when he was at his peak. May I request Snarky Puppy take the pepsi challenge with Toto?
Mindblowing when you find out the story behind these recordings in Holland

Thanks for sharing. Thoroughly enjoyed that and could feel my mind slowly melt trying to keep up with the rhythm section. It was as if Herbie Hancock had taken steroids and then sat down to re-write Headhunters. The delight on the keyboard player’s face at the end says it all!

Self released last year due to the record industry saying it was "too extreme" a very angry album but sadly the anger is justified and comes from on going injustices in Britain. Not for everyone but I am thoroughly enjoying it and make no apologies.
