But there has to be a level of honesty especially when it comes to artists. why would you want to keep giving someone false confidence? we should be honest about shitty work to inspire people to work harder and create better work. I'm sure we could agree...

Crazy Jake ๐บ๐ธ Michael Jacob, by Michael Jacob on Nov 14, 2007 22:09:53 GMT 1, jaypaav, i appreciate your honesty, art is completely objective. There have been many compliments, and critics as well. Its my first print and I hope future ones will expand on my talent. Ive have had a fair share of technical setbacks, but I think things are working out now. IMO Ive got some really nice pieces coming up, maybe youll like one of them. I cant think of any artist, great or not, who had to start somewhere. +1 from me.

You certainly should not be neg for having an opinion (in fact IMO you should not be neg for any reason).
So you have stated clearly your opinion.
Your have also implied that your view is the same as others who have hidden behind positive or even neutral comments. I cannot speak for anyone else's but if I do not like something than I certainly would not say that I did.
When it comes to art everyone is entitled to have an opinion, everyone is entitled to have a different opinion and everyone is entitled to voice their opinion. But no one can state that their opinion is correct as opposed to someone else's. IMO......

Great print but everyone is entitled to their own opinion +1 for doing so jaypaav, this is what the forum should be about, respect.

Crazy Jake ๐บ๐ธ Michael Jacob, by spirit on Nov 14, 2007 23:00:18 GMT 1, At risk of getting negged too, I'm generally with jaypaav on this one (sorry jake, you come across as a really sound guy!). I just don't like the print. Can't really comment on execution as I haven't seen it in the flesh but I agree that the subject matter is unoriginal - (ie Mantis iNeed, Beejoir lv child etc). All of these prints say we would rather spend our cash on an iPod/handbag/game console than do anything about 3rd world poverty. A fair point to make - but I think this kind of art is much more suited to the street, where it can be argued that it raises awareness of the issue in the public consciousness, than it is to the living room wall.
Like Jaypaav, I am very surprised at the overwhelmingly positive response the print has got from the forum. I am not saying people are saying they like it when they don't - just that the response has surprised me.
On a positive note, I think the Dollar COA is brilliant
Jake - Although it's not for me, I congratulate you on making your first print and wish you all the best for the future. I will keep an eye out for your future releases and hope that there is something in the pipeline that I like more.

Crazy Jake ๐บ๐ธ Michael Jacob, by paulypaul on Apr 4, 2008 21:28:20 GMT 1, Not feeling this. The Olympic rings represent the 5 continents. What are you trying to say? People get locked up the world over? And then what?
Bit juvenille. Narrow...Opportunistic...Not good enough. I'm being rough but, hey, if I liked it I'd buy it. I did with 'Obama'...
Need more...Different hand cuff styles would have been interesting, a little more thought provoking? Most used per continent??? Even then, what's the point? Why are a global celebration of sports a time to protest (not saying they aren't). Why not OPEC or G7 related revolution???
Too easy...

Crazy Jake ๐บ๐ธ Michael Jacob, by Michael Jacob on Apr 6, 2008 2:38:17 GMT 1, Its tough to create an image that is simplistic without being too simple. This piece is wholey directed towards the upcoming Olympics in Beijing and is my personal objection toward the living conditions many citizens face over there. As many forum members point out, art is very subjective. This is a piece I felt compelled to do and Im glad that I completed it.
Thanks for the support. Crazy Jake

Crazy Jake ๐บ๐ธ Michael Jacob, by seidbereit on Apr 7, 2008 16:16:05 GMT 1, My Obama print (is that the right term?) arrived today and it has to be said the packaging was of 1A quality (two thick foam boards with spacers between - there's absolutely NO WAY anything could have damaged the print. Absolutely birlliant.
The print itself really does look the business (I'll take it to get framed this week when I have a minute) and CJ has thought up a very nice idea with provenance - a dollar bill was enclosed which the next owner (as if!) has to be given with the print. I assume the serial number is registered to the work, very simple, very clever. All round very very pleased with it. Cheers CJ!
