Crazy Jake ๐บ๐ธ Michael Jacob, by Michael Jacob on Aug 11, 2008 16:00:47 GMT 1, Greetings Here is my new release. The title is โPeaceโ. I started thinking about this a few years ago, after seeing a fellow artist on the forum do a piece that had a gun inside a box. On the glass it read โin case of emergency, break glass.โ I really liked it. I always liked the idea of using PEACE instead of EMERGENCY. The idea of the gun is really good, so I didnt want to reuse it. I had planned on using a Qurโan, but after talking to a few close friends, they thought is was too harsh (and that someone might go jihad on me). I plan a doing one or two for myself to say I did it, but they probably wont be for sale.
One day, I had the idea of using a Molotov cocktail. It really seemed to work. Its a tool anyone can make, and certain to cause some disruption if used. I have created two sizes, large (wine bottle, 750ml) and small (500ml). The details are below (Ive dropped the prices a bit, as I got a better deal buying my epoxy in bulk):
1.Small bottle. Edition of 25. Cost is 25 Pounds, plus 9 Pounds shipping (TOTAL 34 Pounds) Each bottle is signed and numbered, with a white piece of fabric.
2. Large bottle. Edition of 10. Cost is 35 Pounds, plus 11 Pounds shipping (TOTAL 46 Pounds) Each bottle is signed and numbered. You will have choice of color of fabric (white, black, tan, light blue, dark blue, red or yellow).
I sign and number the matchbox. You can either display it with the signature showing, or flip it around and just have a white box, its your choice.
The rest of my materials (bottles, epoxy resins, color dyes, etc) are due this week, and I will pour the bottles this upcoming weekend. The color of the gas will be more transparent then the photos show, I found a better dye to use). I will let them cure for a few days. They will ship August 21-22nd. Please PM if you want one. Orders will be filled in the order they are received. Prompt payment is requested. I will PM you my email address, so you can send money via paypal. Thanks for looking.
100% of the sales are going to buy paper and supplies to complete three silkscreens I have ready and waiting.
Cheers, CraZy JaKE

I'd buy one but I'm really trying to be good and save my pennies. I'm sure you'll have no problem shifting them so you can buy those screens etc. Look forward to seeing what you've got in the pipeline, mate.

Crazy Jake ๐บ๐ธ Michael Jacob, by Michael Jacob on Aug 11, 2008 16:21:05 GMT 1, Thanks for the kind words and orders so far.
AP, I wouldnt think customs would mind, as the gasoline is a hardened and colored epoxy. I was more worried about my last Olympic print that was sent to China. That might piss someone off!
Once again, thanks!

Crazy Jake ๐บ๐ธ Michael Jacob, by doublehelix on Sept 10, 2008 17:38:03 GMT 1, grub1323, why do you continue to post your website URL with nearly every post you put on here? It's just spamming the forum and will more than likely piss people off, I certainly find it annoying. It's in your profile, we can all see it there, there's no need to keep posting it, so please, stop it!

Crazy Jake ๐บ๐ธ Michael Jacob, by Michael Jacob on Sept 11, 2008 13:47:36 GMT 1, I still remember 9/11 like it was yesterday. Its was terrible. After years of always wanting to express myself in regards to 9/11, I finally did it. For the last few years Ive collected many issues of the 9/12/01 New York Times newspaper. I just wasnt sure how to use them. With the horrific event being only one day old, the advertisements in the newspaper seemed surreal to me. There was story after story of 9/11 and the occasional special sale mixed in. My collage is taken from one issue of the paper. It is done on a museum profile canvas that is 16x20x1.5 inches. The whole piece is protected by UV resistant varnish. Originally, I was going to write a letter to God on the front, but as I was doing it, it didnt look right. I did write my letter, and affixed it to the back of the canvas. Even though Banksy has already used the title, Im calling this piece โSale Ends Today.โ It just seemed appropriate.
I am going to be releasing a simple, low cost signed print shortly, still 9/11 focused, but in a completely different manner. 100% of the profits of the prints (if any sell...) will be donated to a 9/11 charity. Keep a lookout.
Thanks Jake

Crazy Jake ๐บ๐ธ Michael Jacob, by tmccarthy41 on Sept 11, 2008 16:13:15 GMT 1, I'll put my words in here...
I'm a New Yorker, born & raised. 9/11 is something that every real NY'er has play in their mind every time something spurs the memory. I had acquaintances that died, I had friends that died. I understand that something like this is an opportunity for an artist to create, and the execution in your collage is good. A nice way to remember one of the worst days of all NY'ers lives...

Crazy Jake ๐บ๐ธ Michael Jacob, by Michael Jacob on Sept 11, 2008 16:40:04 GMT 1, tmc sorry to hear about the friends and acquaintances you lost. I live in Ohio, but have been to NYC countless times. I have many photos of me as a child with my parents, standing on top of the tower. It will always be in my memory.
Im posting a new thread right now, with a charity print. Its a little stark and a little simple, but hopefully the concept and the cause will make it worth while.
If anyone knows of a good reputable NYC 9/11 focused charity, please let me know.
Thanks Jake

Crazy Jake ๐บ๐ธ Michael Jacob, by Michael Jacob on Sept 11, 2008 16:42:00 GMT 1, I had another idea around 9/11. Iโm really into barcodes right now, as you will be seeing more in two of my upcoming pieces due out in the next few months. This piece is titled โchange.โ 9/11 changed everything. Life still has not returned to the way it was. It probably never will. I kept asking myself what 9/11 was about. At first I focused on oil, but that wasnโt it. In my opinion, its about beliefs, about what makes us who we are. 9/11 pitted one belief (those of Osama Bin Laden) against ours. +1 for Osama on that day, but his day will come.
I liked the idea of using barcodes as graphical representations of the towers. The strong vertical lines matched up well to the architecture. At first, I just used two barcodes, but that wasnโt enough. I then thought of using barcodes from oil cans, but that wasnโt right either. I settled on two specific barcodes, from two items bought at the book store. The left barcode is for a copy of the Old Testament. The right barcode is from a Qurโan. I guess thatโs the way I see it.
Anyway, Iโm doing a signed edition of 100 digital prints. Size is 8.5 x 11 inches. I hope to output on print-making paper, or at least a nice heavier stock. If I use print making paper, Ill be recycling some of my earlier prints, so the backs of these will have partial images of my old stuff. 100% of my profits (which I hope to be about 90% of the cost) will be going to a NYC charity. As Im looking into it, right now Im liking the New York Community Trust. If you have any other suggestions (more 9/11 focused) Id like to know of them. It seems most of them no longer exist.
Price is only $9.11 USD! I think thatโs pretty cheap. Postage to the UK and Europe is $7.00 USD. Shipping to the US is $4.00 USD. They will be sent flat.
TOTAL FOR US destined prints: $13.11 TOTAL FOR UK and the rest of the world: $16.11
THANKS FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
Orders (and numbered prints) will be processed in the order payments are received. Payments can be made via paypal to mjacob@cooper-smith.com
I plan on doing 9 large size stencils of this piece on canvas when I get the time and money.
