Crazy Jake ๐บ๐ธ Michael Jacob, by Michael Jacob on Nov 15, 2008 20:48:37 GMT 1, Here's a concept Im working on, titled: FROM ABOVE. Id like constructive opinions please. The image here is just a computer file. What Id like to do is an actual size piece, 8x6 feet. I would like it to be a hanging sculpture of sorts. I want the base to be sand-like, and the footsteps to look real, like they were walked on. The whole piece would be white. The wood on top would be real, and about 1 inch thick. The red paint would be a little pearlescent. Im trying a small sculpture right now, using clay and my daugthers barbies for footprints. Im part of an upcoming show in Philadelphia on December 5th, and Id like the study to be done for that. Maybe someone will love it and commission the actual size piece
Id like some of your opinions on what you like and dont like. News sets of eyes always help. Many thanks!

Crazy Jake ๐บ๐ธ Michael Jacob, by Michael Jacob on Nov 15, 2008 23:14:16 GMT 1, ive been doing some religious stuff lately. Ive got this piece, a large screenprint, and a few small sculptures in the works. This piece is called FROM ABOVE. Its a snapshot looking at the ground right after the Crucifiction. I wanted to simplify the moment and instead of showing Jesus, or the Cross or anything else, just the ground seemed to stand out. When I can do it full size, I would like it all white with imprints in the sand. I think seeing this 8 x 8 feet or so would be striking. Thanks for asking.

Better add the link so we can cut and paste.
Edit:- The link associated with the picture is i194.photobucket.com/albums/z210/cooper-smith/fromabove.jpg but even using this does not work on a p.c.

Crazy Jake ๐บ๐ธ Michael Jacob, by seidbereit on Nov 16, 2008 14:03:13 GMT 1, Not sure about it being all white to be honest as it makes it look like snow. Also not sure the cross would have been quite so accurately squared off as you've shown it, surely it would have been a pretty rough affair.
Shouldn't the two crosses on either side also be visible?

Crazy Jake ๐บ๐ธ Michael Jacob, by crazyarsemother on Nov 16, 2008 14:16:31 GMT 1, Why don't you paint your feet or use real sand and then fix it in resin. Or make the whole installation and then just rotate it 90 degrees forward and photograph it. Don't forget that having made the choice to produce the piece in 2D it still needs those elements that make it visually stimulating, rather than relying on it translating a concept like a diagram. Good luck mate, I am sure you will make it. Let us know how it goes with T and P.

Crazy Jake ๐บ๐ธ Michael Jacob, by Michael Jacob on Nov 16, 2008 14:37:01 GMT 1, wizbong, thanks for the help with the images. I still have no idea why people arent seeing it. Maybe that explains poor sales of some of my previous artwork.
thanks for all the good ideas. seidbereit, i agree with the squared off wood. for the final piece, Ive been looking for a piece of distressed wood that I think will ad alot to the piece. Originally I was going to make it more natural looking, but through a little experimenting, the white seemed to help convey the message better and force the eye to to where I wanted it to go when looking at it. In person, the white looks really good. As for the heros comments (and lous)I was really trying to make the "snapshot" from the ground. I really like the idea of fake blood. Now you've got me thinking about real blood. I remember seeing a post on here quite a while ago of a artist who uses real blood to paint with. My only hesitation aside from offending people is that it wouldnt be as bright as I would like. I also like Bakers idea of using my feet. I had thought about doing that for a full size test on brown craft paper. If theres a way to create a sand and resin piece and actually walk across that, it would be GREAT! Im going to have to look into that. lastly, i like the idea of adding the two crosses. that could make for a nice horizontal version, or maybe a tripdych? THANKS again to all those who offered their opinions, it really helps!

why is there blood spots on the left and right?

Crazy Jake ๐บ๐ธ Michael Jacob, by Michael Jacob on May 26, 2009 16:49:30 GMT 1, ***UPDATE*** All pieces are sold. Many thanks to the forum!
Hello all, Its been a while since Ive posted any new artwork.
My Obama print was very well received here in the States. Here is a recent clip, check out: abclocal.go.com/wls/video?id=6783402
It has allowed me to get my foot in the doors of some great galleries. I have been spending alot of time working on a large show I hope to put on later this year. Im in final talks with a prominent NYC gallery, so Ill keep you posted. The show will have many originals and a few prints to go with them. The gallery has asked that I dont show it until the show. Im really jazzed about it, and the body of works has received huge support from the people reviewing it.
having said that, this forum was my birthplace in terms of art. I just did a small piece of art, its only A4 in size. The edition size is 20, and I will only be selling it here. The title is "20/20".
As those of you who know me, I like CRAZY deals. If you prepay for the print, sight unseen, its only $20 USD. After its released, its going to be 20 Pounds (still a great deal IMO). Its like a grab bag you used to get as a kid. Postage will be an additional $10 USD. Let me know if there are any early buyers! I will post an image on Friday. I posted about this a while ago and mentioned the first person responding would get a free one, and its going to Retroboy!
Thanks again for everyones support, none of this would be happening if it weren't for this forum.
cRaZY JakE
ps Im also putting the finishing touches on a website (long overdue). It sould be done mid to late july. www.michaeljacobstudio.com
