FAILE "Bedtime Stories" Perry Rubenstein - 4th Nov, by afroken on Nov 5, 2010 21:39:58 GMT 1, That installation is impressive, but I'm not feeling the new work at all. I think I'm in a minority though.

Its not often I disagree with you but in this instance I do. I just love the new industrial and architectural feel to their latest work softened by the subject matter. I feared for a while they had lost their way. Shame on me.

I won't argue with you. You know best what you like and what you don't. I would just like to quote what one of Patricks said: " This isn't really an exhibition about message, it's more about process. Not to say that it is devoid of any message. It's just been more about building than about going out and trying to make a statement with the visual."
Personally I like it more and more.

That's fair enough, but you're talking more about the execution I think, which is definitely very powerful, particularly when used with older imagery. The older stuff has real drama and a pulp sensibility. This new work just leaves me cold. It's like they've stripped it of any personality. Maybe that's their intention, dunno, but I'm not liking it too much.

FAILE "Bedtime Stories" Perry Rubenstein - 4th Nov, by meatbag on Nov 5, 2010 22:14:51 GMT 1, This work has to be seen up close.. the amount of detail put in to every block is insane. Those pieces are so massive that to just see theses online pics loses everything. They honestly look completely diff when you see them in person truly stunning. I sat and stared all nite because there was just so much to take in.
I wanted to remove that flag from the installation so bad

I can only imagine. Agree with you - I think looking at all these pics that there is a certain "image overload". And lots of things are actually getting lost. The best would be focusing on one piece at the time and in person.

I find it really interesting the juxtaposition between the fluid and chaotic nature of their previous work and the cold, clean linear lines that embodies, encapsulates and confines this work. Without knowledge of their previous work and spirit would this new direction have as much impact? For me, no and for that very reason I find it a pleasurable experience.

FAILE "Bedtime Stories" Perry Rubenstein - 4th Nov, by craigf on Nov 5, 2010 22:30:34 GMT 1, Popped in today, execution was great, but I didn't go away with a wow feeling. I did leave thinking I want a faile piece on wood and I really liked the way they had mixed the blocks to form the images
