give my future kids a good start in a good school, and relax.
I dont think there is anything wrong in being young and driven, i know i want a job in finance so im working hard to get it.
Maybe when im older i might realise there is more to life etc etc etc, but at the moment, i want that job.

Who are we?, by bmjt on Dec 10, 2010 15:01:52 GMT 1, Can I ask what you hope to do with your money once it's in the bank? give my future kids a good start in a good school, and relax. Maybe when im older i might realise there is more to life etc etc etc, but at the moment, i want that job.
I hope you come to that realisation sooner, rather than later. Strange you say that 'you might realise there is more to life' than money, as if you don't think there is, and it will take having earned it, to realise it.
Why a job in finance? - Simply because of the bloated salaries? Rather than finding a pursuit you love and care about. I'm not here to preach or life-coach I just find the youthful hypnosis with money demoralising.
It would have been nice to hear you say you would have helped out other people with some of your theoretical accumulated wealth, but it just sounds like you're only interested in personal gratification and protecting your own. Bit of a shame really, but pretty symptomatic of many from the current generation.
Being driven is a great thing, but I just want people to do so for the right reasons, and not out of fear, insecurity or status anxiety.
Good luck in whatever you do.

Unfortunatly its not exactly practical to do something I love, I would love to be a ski instructor and just spend my whole time on the mountain, but not only would my parents kill me, but I wouldnt feel happy just living for the moment, with no eye on the future. One day im going to have kids, and i want them to have the same opportunities that i did.
I help out others already, i will continue to do that however rich or poor I am.
What profession do you do?

I currently work freelance as a designer, illustrator and artist, although I try not to settle in an area for too much time, as long as it's something creative and with a positive end-result. I'm just always looking for new avenues to exploit and have a go at, there's just so many things to do and ways to do it it's scary, but exciting.
I finished a 4-year degree in architecture a year or so ago; and I did pretty well, but the long hours, stress and little control over the end-product left me cold. I knew I wanted to do something creative, so I thought I would go it alone and see how it went. Parents were right behind me after we'd talked it through, and luckily it's gone pretty well. Who knows how long it'll continue but right now i'm really happy and working in a field I love.
I've always got an eye on the future, and have long-term plans; eg. renovating/designing my own house, write a book, building houses in Africa etc. but i'm young and I could get hit by a bus tomorrow so i'm happy to live in the moment to an extent.
You shouldn't be ashamed to do something you enjoy, I doubt your parents would mind that much if you asked them, as long as you were applying yourself. It's hard to sell that idea to you in a few words, but there are some great books/essays out there I would urge you read that would do a much better job than I could.
In fact, there was an interesting article I found the other day, all about asking yourself just 2 questions to judge your current situation: tinyurl.com/28d7fo6
Anyway, I'd better stop before I get carried away/make myself a target of ridicule.
