Tavar Zawacki ๐บ๐ธ Above Street Art โข Print Release, by karengolden on Mar 10, 2009 19:32:58 GMT 1, Thanks for the feed back.
PLURKER: No problems with the transfer of the image to paper. We all thought the wordplay and theme behind trying to put two and two together was relative to these current situations.
HAPPYSHOPPER: Sure you do have a point. The different colored (BLUE) prints are an edition of 10 where the (GREEN) have 40 in the edition. Each are numbered and signed.
We have a few of each still in stock. happy bidding. -Karen

Tavar Zawacki ๐บ๐ธ Above Street Art โข Print Release, by karengolden on Apr 21, 2009 9:56:55 GMT 1, Yes, there has been several questions (not sure in defense of England or Ireland) about the green and orange edition and its similarities to the Irish flags colors. It could be a statement, co-incidence or just that the 2-colors go well with this print. -Karen.

Tavar Zawacki ๐บ๐ธ Above Street Art โข Print Release, by karengolden on Apr 22, 2009 10:42:36 GMT 1, Good day WIZBONG. You must be talking about the purchase questionnaire that he setup on the site for his originals? I must agree the concept is interesting and "novel" as you say but from a business perspective it's not always that effective to turn down sales or be so strict about who buys your work or for the possible intention of them re-selling it at a later time? In the interview I posted in the previous comment (http://arrestedmotion.com/2009/04/interview-above-street-art-arrow-mobile-stencil-word-play-releases-union-jack-arrows/) ABOVE talks about the power of money and how the current economic situation could be a good reality check for people and what is important to them. Above is perhaps too naive or pure in his approach about the fact that he wants to sell his artworks to people that have a genuine interest and not to someone who immediately wants to "flip" it for double the price. We all know this is how many secondary markets exists but you can't blame Above for wanting to try his best to sift through that with his questionnaire? Or maybe you can?
While many blogs have posted about Above's recent UNION JACK ARROWS, its very affordable price, and fact that Above designed and printed everything himself. It must be said that one of the most popular topics for discussion is and has been the orange and green edition and it's striking resemblance to England's neighbour Ireland's flags colours. There seems to be a lot of controversy in defense of both countries which makes for some good talk.
We appreciate the comments and the recent purchases on many of your behalf. It is nice to know even during this economic "slump" that a personalized hand made print from a street artist can still be appreciated and received. -Karen.

Tavar Zawacki ๐บ๐ธ Above Street Art โข Print Release, by karengolden on Apr 24, 2009 20:15:36 GMT 1, Thank you Stradled for your feedback. We are aware of the current economic situation and this is why Above decided to cut back the price to what it is now. 69 pounds for regular and 99 pounds for the special editions. We think this is more than affordable for the amount of time and image of this print. We are pleased to read that you were able to get 1 of the "2 and 2 2gether" prints before they sold out. To answer your question about the embosser, yes Above custom designed and invested in a very large embosser for all of his current and future prints. The appearance looks sharp and classy.
Keep the feedback coming. -Karen.

Tavar Zawacki ๐บ๐ธ Above Street Art โข Print Release, by milkybinbags on Apr 25, 2009 22:26:46 GMT 1, positive: the detail on the brown wall is sharp. and the reflection is ace. my favourite part of the print. think the tagging at the top works really well too.
negative: not a fan of the green and orange together with the union jack - would've been nice to see a special edition with perhaps a different flag perhaps, rather than just slightly different colours, or more extreme colours so it is more striking.

Tavar Zawacki ๐บ๐ธ Above Street Art โข Print Release, by digitalroach on Apr 26, 2009 16:30:12 GMT 1, Allways dug the wordplay arrows,,So the 1 strength and 1 weakness question makes alot of sense.I picked up the last print and was well happy with it. The strength is its a great flag that shows unity. The weakness is people are not sure if they should wave it or not.

Tavar Zawacki ๐บ๐ธ Above Street Art โข Print Release, by karengolden on Apr 28, 2009 1:48:40 GMT 1, Jones27: I love your humour about the Alan Sugar challenge and fact that only 1 hour was spent on the design and 6 on the tags. I think everyone can agree is best if the economy were in full swing again. -Karen.

Tavar Zawacki ๐บ๐ธ Above Street Art โข Print Release, by karengolden on Apr 28, 2009 20:30:37 GMT 1, SLIDING ON THE WALLS and OCTOPUSUK: Both of you are very observant and to be quite honest I'm surprised many other members didn't catch this "adjustment" from Above in his design. Here is what the traditional Union Jack looks like
The LEFT side of the flag's shadow is on top, and the RIGHT side of the flag's shadow are under the cross bars on the bottom. If you look at the way Above positioned his arrows IMO the traditional Union Jack would not work inside the composition. Maybe Above is making a statement with the "upside down" flag and the "Irish colors"?

With it being like a print of a photo showing Above's work it just sort of looses its edge

Tavar Zawacki ๐บ๐ธ Above Street Art โข Print Release, by karengolden on May 1, 2009 21:47:29 GMT 1, As promised today Above selected the winner for the free UNION JACK print giveaway. The winner was "zimzallabimdesign" and this is what he/she had to say about print. Thank you all who participated and gave positive and negative feedback about this print.
"I find it quite an ironic image given the current situation of the United Kingdom. The clear arrows on the top suggest that the United Kingdom is on the up when were really fucked at the moment and the reality is that we are heading in a nose dive.
I personally would change the image so that the arrows on the top half would be pointing down, with the bottom half arrows pointing upwards in the reflection in the water. This would better convey the current status we're in: The United Kingdom in reality is in decline, whilst we are being fed by the illusion (illustrated by the reflection) that things are getting better.
p.s.: I found an arrow in Vilnius in Lithuania, not entirely sure if it was your work otherwise it was a very good copy-cat. Nevertheless it was blown from the wire it was suspended from during a blizzard whilst I was there. I promptly snapped it up. Best souvenir I could have hoped for!
Keep up the good work!"
