Above just finished printing his 2nd 1950โs actor in his upcoming 1950โs HOLLYWOOD Arrow box set! The first male actor to be shown is none other than Mr Paul Newman. Paul Newman was a huge role in the 1950โs cinema. Paulโs first movie for Hollywood was The Silver Chalice (1954), followed by acclaimed roles in Somebody Up There Likes Me (1956), as boxer Rocky Graziano; Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (1958) * which he was nominated โ Academy Award for Best Actor! Newman was one of the few actors who successfully made the transition from 1950s cinema to that of the 1960s and 1970s. His rebellious persona translated well to a subsequent generation.
We will keep you updated with more process photos as Above makes them.

By the mid-1950s, Hepburn was not only one of the biggest motion picture stars in Hollywood, but also a major fashion influence. Her gamine and elfin appearance and widely recognised sense of chic were both admired and imitated. In 1955, she was awarded the Golden Globe for World Film Favorite โ Female
In 1954, Hepburn returned to the stage to play the water sprite in Ondine in a performance with Mel Ferrer, whom she would marry later in the year. During the run of the play, Hepburn was awarded the Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture Actress and the Academy Award, both for Roman Holiday. Six weeks after receiving the Oscar, Hepburn was awarded the Tony Award for Best Actress for Ondine. Audrey Hepburn is one of only three actresses to receive a Best Actress Oscar and Best Actress Tony in the same year.

James Dean is a cultural icon best embodied in the title of his most celebrated film, Rebel Without a Cause (1955), in which he starred as troubled Los Angeles teenager Jim Stark. The other two roles that defined his stardom were as loner Cal Trask in East of Eden (1955), and as the surly farmer Jett Rink in Giant (1956). Deanโs enduring fame and popularity rests on only these three films, his entire output being in starring roles. His death in a car crash at an early age cemented his legendary status.
Next up will be photo of the large arrow box that will house all of the arrows safely inside. Stay tuned.

Above just sent over these beautiful photos of the front and back arrow pieces for the large arrow box that will house all 5 actors inside it. These larger arrows and the box are 22 inches tall (55 cm) / 20 inches wide (50 cm) / Above said the arrow box heโs started will be 3 inches deep (7.62 cm) so all 5 smaller Hollywood actors can fit nicely inside.
We should have the photos from the engraving process soon.
This arrow will be the front of the 1950′s Hollywood Box. Ms Marilyn Monroe

Each wooden arrow is laser engraved on the back with the respective name of each Hollywood actor. In addition each is set is individually numbered 1 thru 10 and comes with a laser engraved ABOVE signature. Ill have close up photos for a closer look soon

He decided to invest a decent chunk of money to have each of the 5 actors laser engraved on the back side of each respective wooden arrow. The visual aesthetic of having a laser engrave precision lines is quite charming and ads that extra something to this edition. Take a look at the process in the photos here.
During the engraving process Above has been hard at work making the large arrow box. More photos soon.
Aligning the laser to the arrow.
There are 10 sets for Aboveโs 1950′s Hollywood series. Each set has 5 actors and each set is individually numbered. Above was able to ad an engraved signature to each arrow as well.
During the engraving process a thin piece of tape is laid on the wood surface to prevent burns.
After the arrow is laser engraved the tape is peeled off.
This is the laser engraved arrow with the majority of the tape peeled off. You can notice parts of the tape that are still taped to the wooden arrow due to โislandsโ during the engraving process.
Itโs important to sand away any small debris for a nice finish.
This is the final result! A beautiful aesthetic, and feature to this edition.

Take a look at some of the process photos. We are in the process of photographing all of the finished arrows, and box and will make 1 final HUGE post showing final completed photos of this edition.
Beginning to tape off the edges to paint and finish the black shadow
All taped up. If I remember the green tape is called reptile tape and is very resistant to moisture so when you paint you get a very sharp clean line.
Painting the inside of the arrow box. Take note to the piano hinge on the top left side of the arrow. Itโs 12 inches long and screwed into the wooden arrow. It allows amazing support and a classy way to open the arrow box.
Painting Marilyn
All of the arrows finished with black latex sitting open to dry. The look like little grand pianos propped open in this photo.
These are the wooden stands I previously posted about. Above wood stained each stand and did a nice angle cut to compliment the angles of the arrows.
1 final big post coming later today from our photo shoot.

Tavar Zawacki ๐บ๐ธ Above Street Art โข Print Release, by karengolden on Nov 22, 2010 1:38:02 GMT 1, We are very happy to post the final photos of this edition! Here is a sequence of the arrow box opening up so you can get a better understanding of itโs design and function.
The arrow box. It measures nearly 2 feet in height! The size is 22 inches tall (55cm) X 20 inches wide (50cm) and 3 inches in depth (7.62 cm). The box is made entirely of premium poplar wood. The thickness of the top cover (ABOVE MARILYN) arrow is 1/8 of an inch and the image of Marilyn is screen printed directly onto the wooden arrow.
Above designed the arrow box to have a long and sturdy 12 inch (30 cm) piano hinge screwed into the top left of the box. The piano hinge is barely visible and Above did a great job of concealing most of the hinge with the black shadow that wraps both the front and the back of the arrow.
The design and spacing inside the arrow is very orderly and constructed in a way so the 5 smaller arrows are secured and fit nicely with the stands inside the arrow box.
These are the wooden stands I previously posted about. Each stand is 12 inches long (30 cm) and made from select pine 1 x 3 wood. To compliment the black screen printed image Above decided to also paint each stand black for a non invasive aesthetic. There is a dado cut in the wood making a nice slot for each arrow to be placed on the stand to be presented. Take a look and notice that each arrow stand is cut at a 45 degree angle to compliment the angles of the arrow as well as to fit together perfectly inside the arrow.

Above made every single aspect and design of his hollywood arrow box set! (not the laser engraving, heโs not that good!) Itโs a nice attraction not only the final product but the fact that Above took the time to design and build each box personally. Above could of easily paid to have the boxes made, and the arrows screen printed by someone else, but if you havenโt noticed with Aboveโs artworks he really enjoys the process and hands on approach.
I'm uploading the final photos now and will post as soon as I'm done arranging and uploading. Both Above and I are very happy with this edition and how it looks. Hope you feel the same.

We are very happy to post the final photos of this edition! Here is a sequence of the arrow box opening up so you can get a better understanding of itโs design and function. The arrow box. It measures nearly 2 feet in height! The size is 22 inches tall (55cm) X 20 inches wide (50cm) and 3 inches in depth (7.62 cm). The box is made entirely of premium poplar wood. The thickness of the top cover (ABOVE MARILYN) arrow is 1/8 of an inch and the image of Marilyn is screen printed directly onto the wooden arrow. Above designed the arrow box to have a long and sturdy 12 inch (30 cm) piano hinge screwed into the top left of the box. The piano hinge is barely visible and Above did a great job of concealing most of the hinge with the black shadow that wraps both the front and the back of the arrow. The design and spacing inside the arrow is very orderly and constructed in a way so the 5 smaller arrows are secured and fit nicely with the stands inside the arrow box. The fun aspect of this edition is that you can present the arrows in many different locations around your house. There's always a worry about using photographs for commercial purposes, in that copyright clearance is hard to obtain. I hope Above doesn't run into any trouble!

sorry for photo quality but I took the photos just as a record
I was able to round up a photo from Above's website showing his process from this years earlier arrows for Los Angeles (hollywood) and what looks like the smaller arrows some of you have seen and posted from around Europe.
