Banksy • Choose Your Weapon, GREY Queue Jumping, by tinker on Dec 18, 2010 17:04:49 GMT 1, You say that but how did you know it was going to happen? You didn't as it wasn't announced until 10pm, and at that time it was already too late. Those who live local it's a fair gamble but those who travel from a far it can be an expensive one. Plus everyone is not able to drop everything at a drop of a hat. The only people pro this type of release are those who are able to get down. And it is the same people every year who are able to make it down, with a few exceptions. Without doubt an online release gives MORE fans a better chance of getting a print. By 4pm on the Friday people on here who work nearby had said that there was xx amount of people in the queue, using the no smoke without fire theory I was happy to take a gamble on something happening. I think the whole trip cost me about £120 (petrol, parking, Food, Severn Toll etc) , but i'd have only gone out that night and pissed most of that up the wall anyway. You have mis quoted atrsmybag there, thats not his statement.. All he did was quote fingerz statement ??

Banksy • Choose Your Weapon, GREY Queue Jumping, by Daniel Silk on Dec 18, 2010 17:05:33 GMT 1, Yep! nobody really knew what was going on that day, so people just had to make decisions on what info was coming back from people who were on the street in London. Many of the people who eventually got a print probably did so from getting there as soon as they heard at least something was happening, even if they dint really know exactly when or where.

Kept looking at the forum on Friday afternoon for info and read up about people queueing. Went home had some tea, then settled down to watch QPR v Watford match on the BBC with MacBook on lap and at about 8.15ish saw a picture posted on the forum of the queue at Berwick Street, then spoke to a mate who lives in the East End who was preparing to go himself and made my mind up then to get to Ipswich and catch a train to Liverpool Street. Phoned him again and he told me about the POW announcement and to go to Commercial Street instead. Super Mick was just ahead of me in the queue. Thankfully, I got my CYW at Berwick Street later that day. Really glad Super Mick got his 'grey'. Well deserved for all his efforts.

Banksy • Choose Your Weapon, GREY Queue Jumping, by Daniel Silk on Dec 18, 2010 17:40:10 GMT 1, I think a lot of the older prints were pretty easy to find a year or two back, so the values were under £1,000. But as things have been resold, and with less and less up for sale they have become much rarer, so the values might be creeping up a bit now.

TM is always a bit cheaper because of the image so about 750.... all IMO of course!

The movie over the last 6 months has done it for sure, will be intersting to see where things are in another 6 months after the hype dies down again

Banksy • Choose Your Weapon, GREY Queue Jumping, by colinfishwick on Dec 18, 2010 18:03:50 GMT 1, I agree you cannot satisfy everyone and cannot prevent flipping. What they can do is trying to distribute the prints as fair as possible. That is why I suggested personal registration and a copy of their ID being made. You only register once and they put you on their waitinglist and they work down this list every release. People who have been buying before won't be able to buy at their own name again. Offcourse people will be asking other people to register but because it has to be in person for UK residents or with a double ID for overseas bidders, I think there will be less problems. People know they are on the list and know that sooner of later they will get their Banksy print. In my opinion this is a fair way of releasing the prints and I would like to hear comments or other suggestions.
hi there, i don't disagree that it will be an improvement but my point is simply that no matter how stringent the checks, there will still be people looking to exploit the fact that POW release Banksy works far below market value. they could take our DNA - it still won't stop those looking to turn a fast buck.
POW cannot win IMO.

You are absolutely right about there will always be someone complaining but IMO with the distribution I suggested people know upfront how it works. People do not have to que, people will not be able to jump the que and people do not have to check the forum every minute if there might be a release of a Banksy print (there are people that have to work and are not able to constantly check the forum).
I am sure POW will be receiving much less complaints and it's just a fair way to distribute because in time everyone will get the opportunity to buy a print. IMO win - win for everyone with exception of the majority of the flippers.

i'm not sure you get my point exactly, these flippers are not chancers who happen to be walking by a queue, decide to join or push in and buy the latest release. they are organised galleries, trading high value artworks who get a dozen south american (students possibly?) young men and women to queue overnight and as soon as they receive their raffle tickets, get handed the £450 in cash!
do you honestly believe that a few ID checks are going to get in the way of a man who lays out £4.5K in cash without batting an eyelid and within an hour has every colourway available for a grand total of £80K??
you don't get that kind of return on class A drugs - and they come with a 10-15 year prison term!! so it's only going to get worse, once organised criminals and not art dealers get wind of these kinds of figures you will see widespread violence, intimidation and disruption - this year's queue will seem like a day out at Disneyworld......

Your statement is sound and clear. I am just thinking along with the other forum members about how these problems can be avoided and how to get the prints to people who just buy them and hang them on the walls at their homes.
I also like the idea of a lottery.
What do you suggest.

Banksy • Choose Your Weapon, GREY Queue Jumping, by ABC on Dec 18, 2010 22:37:04 GMT 1, Agree with the above post but over the last 2 years there are so many wannabe galleries popping up and all they sell is stuff that has collected under the bed, yes we all have those folders.. A real gallery is an organization that supports an artist by investing time and money and then hopefully gets a return in the future, take Neate and Elms for example.
I know this is a Banksy forum but look at the thread views and you realise it's just a flippers paradise. Nothing wrong with new members, more the merrior but members dripping about not getting a print when they didn't know who Banksy was last year is amusing.
