Banksy โข Choose Your Weapon, GREY Queue Jumping, by naughtyshorty on Dec 17, 2010 0:14:58 GMT 1, i agree with every word
It does feel that POW can't win whatever they do. There was no end of moaning on here from people about pusher inners and about POW failing to do anything about it. So they do what I am sure we would all agree is the right thing and give a new edition of prints to those people they can establish were genuinely aggrieved. Just like the Grey NOLA they have attempted to do the right thing. Yet still people aren't happy. As I have said before if I was banksy I wouldn't bother doing any more limited edition prints. The hassle that he and POW get just can't be worth it. Iโm not sure I agree Pez; POW is a business and are doing very well out of such releases, thereโs no such thing as easy money so Iโm sure theyโre happy to deal with a few whingers in order to stay afloat and a decent contribution towards their costs each year. In regards to Banksy, Iโm sure his priority is not keeping everyone happy โ no doubt he wants things to be fair, which is why he has done this โqueue-jumping greyโ edition and did the extra Nola print a few years ago, but Iโm sure heโll realise that with very release there is always going to be far more people upset than happy (hence the word โlimitedโ). Each print release raises a large amount of money for the charity of his choice (whether people on here agree with it or not!), which Iโm sure it higher up on his priorities than keeping everyone happy. Things havenโt worked perfectly this year, but the release has served its purpose. POW will hopefully learn from a few mistakes, and next yearโs release should go smoother. Those with a print are happy, those without arenโt. Itโs time to move on everyone, get on with your lives โ a Banksy release is always something I look forward to, and I have been lucky to pick up some from source, but have the realisation that the chances are slim (getting one is well and truly a bonus). Next year, I will continue to look forward to it with anticipation, and enjoy the hype when the time comes, whether I pick one up or not. As everyone keeps saying, thereโs more important things in life. Am I rambling yetโฆ

Banksy โข Choose Your Weapon, GREY Queue Jumping, by wizzy on Dec 17, 2010 0:17:21 GMT 1, not sure that's true - when it went on sale I got a print and then read on the board that someone else had the same print number straight after. I ended up with the white and the other guy (I assume) got a grey. Mines framed and on the wall Its a bit of both I remember I missed the one on Friday (second day) by a couple of minutes. Was F5'ing, but had to go out the door to stand in the middle of the street waving my arms around like i just dont care! Crazy.
Crazy indeed Martin.

Banksy โข Choose Your Weapon, GREY Queue Jumping, by ABC on Dec 17, 2010 10:24:43 GMT 1, How many companies have forum members telling them how to run their business? We should be grateful we still get a chance, slim to non existent i agree but still a chance of buying prints. He could quite easily push his prints out at 1-2k, that would knock a few buyers out of the game but still wouldn't stop flipping.

POW is a business yes but controlled by banksy who it seems isn't really in it for the money. Even if Banksy/POW did stop releasing prints there would be other ways for them to make money. As for the charity thing well again there are ways for banksy to continue to donate his art to charity without the insanity of limited edition print releases.
Don't get me wrong I look forward with anticipation to each Banksy print release as well, and the hope that I might get one. But if I were banksy I would read all the threads on here and think about the bile that goes with it and wonder to myself whether it is all worth it.
On the subject of releases there isn't a perfect way of doing things. Those saying that it should be an online release are probably the same people who were moaning about automatic shopping bots, the protx problems with trolleys and the oversold NOLA's.
The VLH release worked pretty well but again there were still plenty of moaners at the time.

Agreed Pez, there does seem to be a general consensus, and one that I certainly believe, that the VLH release with an option to purchase tickets online, is most definitely the way forward. It will put off flippers (although you'll stilll get the inevitable drop on eBay after release), but the most important thing about this is that everyone has the chance to enter, you don't need to spend your life wondering whether there is going to be an online release any minute, and you earn a shitload for charity through the raffle ticket sales, plus then POW can take there cut. Much less stressful for everyone involved. Surely everyone wins apart from those living in London who know they're in a prime position if it's a shop release.

Banksy โข Choose Your Weapon, GREY Queue Jumping, by stylus on Dec 17, 2010 11:05:13 GMT 1, Agree Pez.
Banksy and POW do their best to be as fair as possible to everyone, and Banksy doesn't release these prints for the money, he does it for the fans. After all, he could make more from the sale of one canvas and with a lot less subsequent hassle! But the edition size is always going to be way below the demand level at that price, so the vast majority of people who want one are going to miss out. Always. No release method, website or queueing system will alter that fact.
Given that Banksy makes his living as an artist, I can't imagine him undermining the secondary market in his work by releasing an edition of 20,000 or something either. We all saw what happened to the market for and sentiment around Micallef work after he released GIWTBB and the Impure Idols set on the same day.
I bet Banksy and the POW team have had a pretty torrid couple of weeks. Roll on Christmas!
Agree Pez.

Everyone keeps saying this, but does this not fall under gambling and lotteries which they would need a licence for? I thought that was an issue after last time?

The majority of people who wanted a print (i didn't by the way) didn't have a chance to just pop down the road and join in the scrum, because WE DONT LIVE IN LONDON, and or had to work, have a family, a life etc. How about a new release exclusive to non-Londoners, just to compensate us for not having to queue all night and watch the people push in then rush to put the print on ebay.
End of mini rant

Banksy โข Choose Your Weapon, GREY Queue Jumping, by leumasdarnley on Dec 17, 2010 12:57:51 GMT 1, I am going to have 2 warm grey versions as me and a couple of my mates wanted to stand in line but then realized we were in a different country. Now that I see how many people missed out I feel guilty for having them. So the best thing I could figure out was to sell them at market value. Seems fair for everyone.
