Banksy โข Choose Your Weapon Print, by Sohoria on Dec 11, 2010 22:18:00 GMT 1, @ grafik - to anyone that spends a night out waiting for a print will give respect to. nw lts was not a good night for me but others thought was good as they was further back. hope manage to win monday as i think you deserve it (+ thank you for advice given me through bad times last year also!).
Do not think banksy is happy how things have turned out... believe he would be the first person to want to know answers for what has happened last x amount of hours.
Simon and Dora work for POW and they are not the ones to make decisions. To call other artists on there site sxxt really dont think is deserved.
Believe now last time SG will be in the uk. Think will be more like travelling to different area like gold flags. Dont believe they planned to do so many print editions in different colorways either. Think credit is due to the printers and there staff who have worked overtime trying to help POW from a horrible situation.
If you only have ten people to turn away not so bad but when in the hundreds think forced onto them to do print release.
Remember last year with the nola? printers done amazing job of doing special edition. Sometimes think people forget hard work the printers put in.
as far as i know gold are pp. have not heard of silver edition.
If banksy didnt care about his fanbase dont believe would have seen ettgs.
I know some people think banksy as a brand but ever thought mr B struggles with success in short amount of time achieved? forced upon him to do print release each year when i am more sure he just wants to do what he originally done.
believe not dec but some point early next year will be release from banksy in another country which will try to push forward a message like what they did for gold flags.
sorry for pain people went through but hope people on here win on the lottery...s

Disagree. Ive gone through the process of getting COAs for all my prints and have no intention on selling. I want the real goods with the provenance. By your theory someone would be just as happy with a high quality bootleg hanging on their wall.

To each their own, of course, but when I bought my Trolleys from a forum member, I had the option of paying PC for a COA or just confirming that the print I was buying was a legit Banksy. As I'm just hanging it on my wall and have no plans to sell on, I don't need a COA. I'm registered at PC as the new owner, good enough for me.

Banksy โข Choose Your Weapon Print, by andrewd on Dec 11, 2010 22:28:23 GMT 1, None of my 10 Banksy prints have COA's. I am the original owner of all of them. Some of them I have e-mails from Stef who used to work for POW. Others have Ghetto receipts from earlier in the decade. Not selling so don't see the need to get COA's. Last Banksy I got was Applause. Don't hold out hope of getting another.

if anyone plans on insuring there collection(whish i suggest you do) you will need authentificton as well as an estimated evaluation on price from a gallery....
so all the hoopla about coa's yea or nay are rubbish talkers... anyine with any sound mind would insure there works and a coa is imperative

I think that she may have had lipo too as that head would have been more fitting on a 15 stone woman. She certainly looks to be going a bit Elvis in the face.

Hmm... hadn't thought about that. Good point. Not sure how much my homeowners insurance covers, might need to look into that and see what I need as far as proof of legitimacy.

Banksy โข Choose Your Weapon Print, by Deleted on Dec 11, 2010 22:51:28 GMT 1, bringing it back to the art, just read this on Wooster Collective. I doff my hat to you Mr. B
www.woostercollective.com/2010/12/banksy_lends_his_support_for_voina_with.html
Banksy has chosen the legal defense fund of the underground Russian artist collective VOINA to be the recipient of all of the proceeds from the sale.
If you're not familiar with VOINA, two of its members are currently in jail in St Petersburg for drawing a massive p***s on a bridge opposite KGB headquarters. The action was a protest of police corruption.

Banksy โข Choose Your Weapon Print, by hlarmy on Dec 11, 2010 23:06:28 GMT 1, Well, so much to say but as Iโm now approaching 40 hours without sleep Iโll keep it short (EDIT: or not!). Here are some of my highlights (youโll notice that I havenโt mentioned many of the downsides to the release, which I think have been covered enough):
- The evening started with a quick decision at 7pm, whilst at my desk at Bristol, to gamble and head to London, and with it miss a formal xmas party, basically on a wing and a prayer!
- Arriving in Soho at 9.30pm to a smaller queue than expected, before having the realisation again that no โsolidโ information had been released and looking around at all the forum sheep and wondering whether weโre all bloody mad
- 10pm and rumours of a POW email โ the iPhones come out and ... mass hysteria, with a few moments of no-one believing what they were seeing, to suddenly everyone quickly packing up and legging it. The ditherers were almost left behind!
- Then watching a dozen or so collectors running down the middle of Shaftesbury Avenue, dodging traffic, literally begging people for their taxi. Brilliant scene, I was giggling as I ran!
- Grabbing a taxi with three others, one of which offers to pay the guy an extra tenner to go like the wind ... and then lets Billysport pick up the tab. Sucker
- Getting our place in the new queue at around the 40 people mark, then watching taxis and cars arriving from everywhere, people running and cycling towards POW from all directions in the hope of getting the best spot possible โ pillows, sleeping bags and wives being dragged behind.
- Watching Slammer arrive and taking on the big Russian mafia flippers (and their fun-draped wives!) at the front of the queue.
- Yapsey doing a count of the queue every 3 minutes (for the whole night ), the poor guy must have lost about 10 years off his life from the stress of it all!
- Spending hours explaining to the drunken curious that we were waiting for Vagnaโs book signing!
- Passing the time helping Artyce with his homework, which consisted of drawing Big Macs and chicken nuggets!!
- Spending a very tense few hours trying to prevent a stampede (a big thanks to the guys who sorted that out, especially the chap that had almost certainly lost his voice by the end of the night and the Kiwi peacemaker!) but finally getting a ticket and with it a massive wave of relaxation.
- 10am: two in, two out. A slow, rather depressing period of watching the flippers go in first and walk out with their Turquoise prints (thereโll be a few or them on eBay soon!) and then walking off, smiling, all the way to the Banksy.
- 10:30am: start the long 4 hour journey home, clinging to the tube all the way (apart from the last leg in the car, for obvious reasons!)
Was it worth it? It certainly was, but mainly because I got lucky. There was some good banter with friends old and new, with mild weather. I would say that the night wasnโt nearly as bad as many are making out (agreed, the fight was a bit nasty but nothing out of the ordinary for 3am in most towns and cities in the country!). Put it this way, I had nothing to lose and had a far more interesting night that I would have had in lying asleep in my bed. There are a few photos below (I particularly like the irony of one of them โ Iโll let you decide which one!)
Having said that, and to reiterate what most people think โ in regards to a store release, I do think that the whole issue could have been avoided by (1) handing out tickets at midnight and (2) using some of the huge profits POW earn to employ 3 beefcakes and some barriers to control the queuing and prevent people jumping in and put a stop to any violence.
It was a stressful night, with tensions running very high, and I was in a decent position (around 70 in the queue) โ massive commiserations to all those people who just missed out (I really do feel for you). 40 hours without sleep and still donโt feel tired โ the joy of a Banksy release Nice to have a year to recover before the next!

Banksy โข Choose Your Weapon Print, by ninja on Dec 11, 2010 23:07:05 GMT 1, I still don't think the print release was planned for this morning so perhaps that's why there is no COA... because they weren't ready - just a thought.
I keep reading posts over and over again saying that POW's hand was forced and that the release wasn't planned for today etc.
If you still believe that then I suggest you go and read Sand's post #3078 on Page 103. There is no doubt in my mind that it was supposed to happen today from reading that.

Banksy โข Choose Your Weapon Print, by ninja on Dec 11, 2010 23:15:04 GMT 1, the problem is there would have been zero problems if they had run it like last year. If they were unprepared as were looking at a different night to release they should have said that to the first people who started Qing at berwick, tell them its not tonight go home. If they were looking at a different method altogether, as i suspect, with berwick releases every day or something then they bottled it when they saw the crowd? im still confused as to how many prints. 175 from POW, (the low edition ones were held back too) 60 from Berwick 100 Grey lottery 25x3 colour in the lottery. = 410?
Five or so held back from each edition though I think (for POW staff etc?). That certainly accounted for the prints at Berwick Street. Numbers 6-25 available in each of the three colours according to somebody on this thread.

Banksy โข Choose Your Weapon Print, by Daniel Silk on Dec 11, 2010 23:18:41 GMT 1, Congratulations on all those who have been lucky so far! But if you haven't got your hands on one yet, remember you still have a chance in the online release at POW - www.picturesonwalls.com/
I fully realize some people are upset about how things went last night with the release so the forum rules are relaxed a little, as I understand people just feel they need to let off a bit of steam in frustration
But still Take it easy people
Thanks!

Banksy โข Choose Your Weapon Print, by v3rm33r on Dec 11, 2010 23:23:09 GMT 1, Well done hlarmy, thats the colour I would have gone for. Was going to leave at nine on the off chance and see what was going on at Commercial Street before heading off to Berwick Street. But had a smoke and procrastinated for too long and missed out - bugger!! Congrats to all who scored and commiserations to all who missed out. Wishing everyone luck for tomorrow.
