Banksy • Choose Your Weapon Print, by elevenspots on Mar 2, 2013 22:31:10 GMT 1, More like this one - it's not mine, as I am sure a few of you will know! Frame removed to protect the innocent!
It's my understanding there are a number of special editions with hand painted dots - I believe this is another link to Keith Haring - although not sure what.

Banksy • Choose Your Weapon Print, by Wearology on Mar 2, 2013 23:01:16 GMT 1, I hope this is helpful explaining the 3 dot reference in Banksy's CYW special edition and how it applies to Keith Haring Symbolic Self-portrait Unit Overview (Part 2) Keith Haring always wanted to bring his art to the people. In the early 1980s he did his first subway drawings. Most of the images he was to use later were invented here—the dancing figures, the flying saucers, the lines radiating from the figures. Soon, people started coming to his loft to buy his drawings, and Keith Haring’s career had begun. In his drawings and early paintings, Haring invented a whole vocabulary of graphic signs and symbols. He repeated the same images over and over. Each object stood for a quality or an abstract idea. Lines radiating from figures mean the figure has been empowered. The “radiant” baby a symbol of threatened childhood, has the power to protect itself. Dolphins are symbols of peace and love; pyramids symbolize eternity; holes in figures symbolize their soul; three eyes in a smiling face stand for greed or joy and computers, robots and TVs symbolize technology. Though the symbols he used seem simple, Keith Haring’s art deals with universal themes—love, war, birth and death. Although his art was always optimistic, many of his messages became more serious at the end of his life.

Banksy • Choose Your Weapon Print, by debaser on Mar 3, 2013 0:01:13 GMT 1, From memory it was red dots on the dogs head. Someone told me that the more red dots the print had, the more of a VIP you are! Best of luck with the search, I haven't heard of any of these coming up for sale. "Someone told me that the more red dots the print had, the more of a VIP you are!"
is this really fucking true?
maybe they havent come up for sale for that very reason.

Banksy • Choose Your Weapon Print, by RBK on Mar 5, 2013 22:10:59 GMT 1, I have been wondering this for a while now, and want to get your theories / thoughts.
Why do Banksy - CYWs sell for so much? Is it because they are signed editions of 25? Because there are a ton of Keith Haring fans out there? Because Banksy hasn't released much of anything in the past 2 years? Or something else?
I consider myself to be an educated Banksy collector, and know a lot about his prints / market, but I don't understand why these prints change hands for so much money. For the type of money these change hands for I'd take an old "classic" Banksy print 10 times out of 10.
Would love to hear your thoughts..

Banksy • Choose Your Weapon Print, by lee3 on Mar 5, 2013 22:28:13 GMT 1, The wider art market has often paid a preimum when desired artists reference art that inspired them which I suspect is a large part of the premium for this and Kate. Editions of 25 probably mean many collectors have more than 1 unlike some of the other editions despite the fact that there are still ~600 similar images. I think it also helps that the print quality is outstanding (to my untrained eye) compared with some of the previous images and those colors are quite lush on the wall. Like you, I'm surprised they've made that perceived jump this quickly but those are the best suppositions I have. Well, all that aside from the fact that I think it's a great image.

It has also been the best Banksy release since his huge rise in popularity; and as such those who 'discovered' him feel as though this print was initially within reach.

An old trick , and its working Totally agree with exception of a couple of dubious auction results they're not that expensive in the wider context. What's happening is due to these very outrageous auction wins and we are about 3 times what was the accepted normal price, suddenly many owners are thinking there's a quick few quid to be made, hence the sudden surge in trading

Certainly the best image released since Nola (IMO) and the large variety of colour ways and low edition size of each mean that people are buying more than one, making them even more scarce.

Banksy • Choose Your Weapon Print, by DrWhite on Mar 5, 2013 23:08:17 GMT 1, I like the variety of colour available in the CYW prints, many of the older prints can be a little muted & as pointed out above the image is strong with the nod to haring, and great quality compared to some of the earlier prints. Those 3 auction results have certainly raised a few eyebrows though.

Banksy • Choose Your Weapon Print, by thisisanton on Mar 6, 2013 0:31:08 GMT 1, CYW was a least a £1,000-1,500 cheaper a 4-5 months ago. I was looking through old sales threads, as I wanted to purchase one. CYW is still cheaper than some of his old classics. I wish a signed Love Rat went for £5000. BTW, if anyone has a signed Love Rat, for £5,000 let me know.
It could be a comboniation of low numbered editions, signed, great image, and possibly Banksy's last print release....

We were all saying "wtf do you want 5 on your wall for"??(well I did anyway) now he should put them all in an auction and pay off his house

Would agree. Small editions of 25 don't really apply when there are so many colour ways many of which are weak colours. Not sure the total CYWs out there but must be 300 or so. I would understand a greater value in a rare colour way.
