I understand why retailers do that, but I still hate it. If you don't want people knowing how many are left then don't allow for "live" inventory.
Since they showed all 1000 initially, I don't think they are playing with the inventory. I think it is people putting them in their cart then starting to check out but not buying them. Since there is no limit to how many you can buy this is a bit of a problem. Or it could be that they have to pull them from the stores before they sell them online.

Today I checked and there were 9 left, then a few minutes later there were exactly 100 again; which led me to the conclusion above. Could just as easily be wrong though.
At the end though it's all whether or not you like 'em.

And these will EASILY sell out. The Standard doesn't need to waste their time playing with inventory to goad anyone into purchasing them.

Maybe a light socket fitted on a dimmer switch might work ( always on the lowest setting )

This is being sold with a Vintage German Brass & Porcelain 3 Light Bulb Industrial Socket Cluster. Pictures Here. At one time I was going to display these in my home, but I really don't have the place for it. Hopefully someone will enjoy this set up.

I am asking $325 for the set up. The socket cluster cost me $175 and are very difficult to find. The light bulbs are going for $180 on average. So the package is under cost. I am happy to ship overseas and have done so with great success in the past.
