Mantis Print ๐ฌ๐ง Street Art โข Art For Sale, by danvnuk on Jul 2, 2007 10:06:45 GMT 1, I've been thinking about this - and your probably right.
At the end of the day, the seller bought the print with his money, he owns it - he can do anything he likes with it, and that should include selling it on E-bay if he wants I guess.
I'm not entirely impressed if someone bought one with the specific intention to sell on and make some quick cash - especially when these prints were pretty much sold to people who contacted Frankie personally to request one.
But, maybe the guy bought it and once he got it home decided he didnt like it - or his wife/GF/Partner didn't like it, or his personal situation means he needs money, or the dog ate his homework etc etc - and then thats fair enough.
At the end of the day, not many ,...but its enevitable, some will end up on Ebay - (Mine wont ;D none of the art I own will. At least, not for the foreseeable future)
The comment did make me laugh though.

okay Frankie specifically asked for them not to go str8 on Ebay so pretty much the 77 of us who got one, should respect his wishes - also its a rocking piece - and if its money the flipper is interested in hold onto it because it will appreciate
having said all that ... i think pretty petty and small minded to mess up an auction seriously why bother? to me it just smacks of sour grapes and is childish...

Mantis Print ๐ฌ๐ง Street Art โข Art For Sale, by Winter on Jul 2, 2007 10:42:00 GMT 1, Sabotaging someone's auction is wrong. If it wasn't for ebay I wouldn't have half the prints I wanted. I'm sure those people who get excited watching the value of their Banksy and Micallef prints escalating aren't complaining. Well actually they probably are. There are many members of this forum who complain about flipping who do just that. Art is subjective - if someone decides they don't like the print and they want to sell then that is up to them. Also it is a well known fact that art is a commodity. Always has been, always will be. The person who sabotaged the auction should be banned from ebay. Their actions are worse than the person who 'flipped'

we all can guess who sabotaged the auction .. .. I cant imagine Steve Lazarides or Ben Eine with Dora doing the same on every new Banksy flipped on ebay .

You're forgetting maybe that Frankie's whole business is based on flipping prints, he buys in bulk at cost and sells them for a profit on ebay. What's the difference ?

As I stated in my post, I have no problem personally with someone selling prints on E-bay - they bought them, they own em - up to them what they do with them.
The difference in this case would be that Frankie specifically asked the buyers not to sell the prints on straight away for a profit. It's a small point I guess, but there was an element of trying to ensure only people who wanted the image got the image. I applaud the effort, and seeing one up on Ebay so soon is fair enough, but it does go against the spirit they were sold in. IMO

Mantis Print ๐ฌ๐ง Street Art โข Art For Sale, by bored with screen names on Jul 2, 2007 13:46:49 GMT 1, I agree that it's not technically WRONG for someone to sell something they own on eBay, but I hate the greed that's always displayed by them. I mean, it's one thing to put it up at cost and then let buyers jack the price up, or to maybe put it up as a Buy it Now as a little over cost, but to put a buy it now at almost 3 times cost? Come on, that's just asking for it. Of course sometimes tastes change or the GF doesn't like something, but I think we all know deep down inside that this person did not have some moment of clarity when they opened this print and decided to put it on ebay and make $400.
And apparently people think it was me because I smiled at the fact that someone sabotaged the auction and have lost 2 respect points since. I'll be sure to keep things I think funny to myself from now on!

Frankie didn't ask me not to sell it on. I think he was just keen that he distributed the image to as many people that genuinely wanted the print as possible. That way the collectors benefit and the artist is guaranteed that the price for their work will stay strong and thus he's done his job well as a distributer. If Frankie was telling anyone not not to resell I'm pretty sure this would have been a joke on his behalf, he is a self proclaimed reseller also, after all.

Thanks. I did not delete my post, I believe it's in a different thread. One in the trader's market? I'm not too entirely concerned with the respect, but since I would like to partake in doing some buys in the future, I certainly didn't want anyone to think I was not a trustworthy buyer!
My views have always been the same. I'm not so much against re-selling, but to buy it, and then sell it immediately for an insane amount of money is pure greed and nothing more. I would admit if I sabotaged the auction, and I do think it was funny (juvenile, yes, but still funny), but it wasn't me!

I'm aware of his previous reputation, so the irony wasn't exactly lost.

Mantis Print ๐ฌ๐ง Street Art โข Art For Sale, by Yessir on Jul 2, 2007 18:40:44 GMT 1, The seller only has his self to blame. Frankie could have easily sold "All Fall Down", for a lot more than he did and I take that as a sign of good will, that he kept the price to what he did. To throw that back in his face, for a quick profit is a shame.
If the seller wanted to sell it so soon after buying it, he could have given Frankie first refusal, to buy it back, so someone who missed out, could have got one.

Never gonna happen. Bought to sell on. I classify 1 out of 77 going awry on the bay as a job well done. If a business could renew 98.7% of its business (that's 76/77 excluding any P/Ps... A/Ps.. etc) then there would be a lot of back patting on a job well done.
If the seller wanted to sell it so soon after buying it, he could have given Frankie first refusal, to buy it back, so someone who missed out, could have got one. Never gonna happen. Mantis Print ๐ฌ๐ง Street Art โข Art For Sale, by corblimeylimey on Jul 3, 2007 16:18:01 GMT 1, Frankie could have easily sold "All Fall Down", for a lot more than he did and I take that as a sign of good will, that he kept the price to what he did. To throw that back in his face, for a quick profit is a shame.
I guess he could have sold it for a little more, but SOS sell for even less (Bejoirs Turin Scam ยฃ65) but I get your point, and that is why POW (and Banksy) have got so upset about the selling of Banksy prints even before POW have posted them out!
