Who is Keith Haring?, by daveart on Dec 14, 2010 15:42:07 GMT 1, Since we have brought up LAII -- here are two of my pieces that show in the same room a Keith Haring from the Growing series and two original LAII on canvas. AS wearology mentions.. did LAII influence KH or did KH influence LAII.

Not hard to see the similarities. these were created about 22 years apart...

"People were more interested in the phenomena than the art itself. This, combined with the growing interest in collecting art as an investment and the resultant boom in the art market, made it a difficult time for a young artist to remain sincere without becoming cynical"
never a truer word spoken....
oh, and talking about art:
'it should be something that liberates the soul, provokes the imagination and encourages people to go further'
i wonder what he'd say about it all nowadays. Legend, RIP.

I've just opened a photobucket account and down/up loaded a couple of shots of my early 80's Tony Shafrazi Gallery poster, that I managed to get hold of 2 or 3 years ago from Belgium. It's handsigned by KH along the right leg of the choregrapher Bill T Jones who is the 'main' subject on the poster. There's also a stylised cartoon towards the bottom of the piece as well, with a gold fluid/roller pen
A 'Gallery' contact of mine indicates that the handwork is akin to other signings carried out at the particular exhibition. You never know maybe he signed it maybe not.
I'm a great Haring fan and love the poster The fact that there is some age related damage to the poster doesn't detract but kind of lends itself to the flawed down to earth common man that I feel that Keith Haring - a real genius was.
Anybody let me know how to transfer a couple of pics and I'll put them over!

The growing series was done in '88 as the narrative was spreading and there was a specific event in '87 that united the pair of artists he's depicting. That's my interpretation, what's it say to you?
