Banksy Grin Reaper Print, by johnnyh on Jul 19, 2013 17:52:31 GMT 1, I do own a fair few Banksy's and the WCP thing does not have any great effect just as when I walk in Camden market when at home the copies are everywhere. Living in Asia copies of pretty much everything are available so again no worries.
I suppose the one slightly worrying thing is that this is an art forum not a copy forum. So I would not really class them as art just as walking past the market stalls in Camden does not make me feel like I have visited a gallery.
I think rather than criticizing people who either bought the first issue and then sold on and made a profit. Or bought later at a market price (note at all uk auctions Banksy does get a royalty from all prices paid.) you might want to consider actually buying a piece of art by an artist it quite good and it looks good on the wall. Better in my book than a Picasso from Ikea, or a Haring from the photo copier.
However likewise if Banksy wants to or does not want to protect his copyright that is his business. He does take actions if he feels it getting close or for his street pieces.
So copies or no copies is upto everyone but not sure we should be discussing Dave's stand at Camden. But if we must might be worth some one taking a camera around London this week end to take photos of all the Banksy Tat available. His work in general is only a opulent of colours so not hard to copy so no wonder the image is the same and pretty sure the paper is cheap. What's interesting is that you are paying similar prices to the originals and in my book quite a high price for a copy.

Banksy Grin Reaper Print, by Manty on Jul 19, 2013 17:57:16 GMT 1, This same argument seems to come around as fast as the flipper arguments I have a nice art collection including the one signed banksy print i was lucky enough to get from source i also have a wcp rude copper framed up on the wall, its not there as any status symbol i have it because i love the image always wanted one so bought it and put it on my wall,i dont have to worry about it being in the sun or my toddler putting his fingers all over it,it was cheap to frame and its great what i find disgusting is when you see members on here flogging their never been framed, stored flat in portfolio, perfect condition banksy prints, nobody ever passes comment yet a few people want to put an imge up on their wall without spending thousands and everybody gets pissy I agree with you in part, especially the whole-
'Very reluctant sale, love this print but have to let her go, never been framed, stored flat' etc etc
At least be honest and say that what you love is what it represents which is money, and you have to let it go because you need to convert a stock into cash. Simples.
i still dont get the WCP bit though, maybe its just swooshing above my head

Banksy Grin Reaper Print, by Deleted on Jul 19, 2013 18:21:56 GMT 1, so i guess you are just going to ignore my answers. Sorry but cut and dry yes or no answers don't serve any purpose when the questions are skewed to favor your opinion. Sorry didn't see your answer.
Yes I guess Yes and No answers aren't always easy to answer.
Firstly, we all know that Banksy will not be releasing another print. Even if he did I don't think that the huge profits that galleries or private sellers that have never even hung them on the wall make will affect his price as he is already so well established. Anyway, if he raises his price at source would this not make him even more out of reach for many people?
Secondly, Yes you're right you can do what you like with a print and make a huge mark up if you like (your recent Evolution flip attests to this) this is ,if not morally, a legally fine thing to do. No I wouldn't give any profit to the architect but then I wouldn't criticise anyone for buying a cheaply made house that looks the same as mine either!
Thirdly, Banksy is already established. Wcp are not stifling a new up and coming career. Whether wcp were around or not people will always be prepared to pay thousands for an original so it's not affecting him at all. Banksy is not copyrighted.
Lastly, yep I agree with you on that!

Banksy Grin Reaper Print, by Coach on Jul 19, 2013 20:29:44 GMT 1, Do we know banksy won't be releasing any more prints? That's quite a bold statement, my friend. I wasn't aware of that. Genuine question : is it the general view that there will be no more prints? I've heard it said a few times on here, but only as speculation, it seemed to me.

Well I don't know Banksy nor do I have any insider knowledge so I'll concede it was a bit of speculation.
I've spoken to a gallery owner who knows him who says that he's just not into the scene all that much now. The money involved - especially with his prints - annoys him and the whole Robbo Vs Banksy thing has got to him. There are still a minority of Team Robbo fans who want to physically hurt him!
Obviously this could all be rubbish but I took it at face value as the man I spoke to has no reason to make this stuff up.

Copying someone's idea but then not writing anything funny doesn't really make a great profile Peggy.

Makes it the lowest priced signed banksy doesn't it? On par with a colour Trollies, which is a much bigger edition
is it that unpopular?

Banksy Grin Reaper Print, by Happy Shopper on Sept 14, 2013 17:50:54 GMT 1, That fact is that CYW is vastly overpriced, and it's proved when you try to do a comparison to another, classic print. Personally I'd much rather has the Grin Reaper that a CYW... how can it be double the price? CYW is actually a VERY large, varied edition (by most other artists definition).
If we used the same rule, Failes 150 series prints would all be editions of 20(ish).
