Banksy Grin Reaper Print, by adrscib on Apr 21, 2007 14:37:11 GMT 1, I own trying to swap my Grin Reaper 167/300.
Due to its high value and increasing scarcity I am willing to part it by swapping with 2 x Dan Baldwin art canvases, or a mix of canvases + prints.
Open to negotiate, willing to hear any realistic offers. PM me if interested.

A print against 2 canvases and prints = -/+4k against -/+10k ! You've got to be kidding right? Not sure if it is realistic and very fair, but good luck.

Banksy Grin Reaper Print, by adrscib on Apr 21, 2007 14:55:46 GMT 1, as i told you, i am open and will consider all offers....remember a Banksy canvas is worth 10-20 times more than a baldwin canvas, so are prints... furthermore... with next weeks Banksy auction (which might break new records) his price levels might rise further.... so my suggestion might be well considered... on ebay grin reapers are offered from GBP 5k - 6.5k, whilst andipa ask for gbp 8k. Similary i also see baldwin canvases being offered at 2.5 - 3k from opus.

Banksy Grin Reaper Print, by neutral on Apr 21, 2007 15:08:35 GMT 1, Yes on ebay they are offeredd at 5k - 6.5K and that is simply why they do not sell. That is why and regardless of the auction which is at that point speculation, I partially think it is way too high expectation. To persue on the ebay subject, the last Baldwin canvas went for 3.7k, and a better one that the one listed and available at opus @2.3/3K. To my mind 3.7K will be a more reasonnable price to base the swap.

see you didn't get the £5k you were after then adrscrib? good to see you're prepared to keep your money in art though and not just cut and run. i think you need to be a little more realistic though chap.

Banksy Grin Reaper Print, by adrscib on Apr 21, 2007 19:13:54 GMT 1, hi les, you're followig me everywhere
when i was trying to sell on ebay i received offers of ppl willing to spend 4k.... i was really tempted but it must really be a good offer to sell... i mean... we have a living warhol here... and ppl dont realise this!!! imagine if i sell my reaper will i manage to buy another banksy?? not in this life!
so basically thats my point... and i did not buy the reaper for 400 quid neither... a paid a high price for it...
still i want to keep my money in art... i appreciate you understood that. as most of the negative points i have are from ppl who thought that i am simply a speculator...
i can buy art to hang on walls but not only for the sake of art but i want it to be on my walls and guests come in and say ... oh where did i see banksy before? or... ohh you own a banksy???
from when i bought my banksy my friend say "he's an expert in art!" ;D
i dont want to lose that status unless i get a deal thats really worth it

Banksy Grin Reaper Print, by stuey09 on Apr 21, 2007 19:24:47 GMT 1, I read your post a couple of times to make sure I fully understood it, as you make several points adrscib. I agree with a lot of what you say, but wonder why you would need sought after art to achieve status. There are loads of things that you can do yourself to achieve status. Art is great and if you can maintain some value, perhaps for old age or in case you need to sell in order to buy something new, then that's cool. But status?

Oh dear, I sense we need a Banksy agony aunt column.
Owning a Banksy, will not make you cool, does not give you status, will not solve world hunger and global warming, it will not help you to sleep at night, drive better or enable you to make love to beautiful women normally out of your league, it will not make you dance better, get richer, nor clear up your acne.
Owning a Banksy is a life long commitment, cherish it, love it, give praise to the lord that you own it, ditch your girlfriends and boyfriends before it, create an alter to Banksys rapturous transition to sainthood ( I just got one for under 500 quid, my lord it's a MIRACLE). then Sing hallelujah (twice) !...and last but not least.. never, I say NEVER NEVER NEVER, come onto a Bansy forum trading for a pick n mix of Desparate Dan Blandwin works ! Sacriligeous I tell you !
Repent or die !!!!
Three Toxic Mary's and a how's your father and all will be forgiven !

Banksy Grin Reaper Print, by adrscib on Apr 21, 2007 19:42:09 GMT 1, hi Stuey09...
i try to explain myself better becuase you have to understand all the context ... i am a qualified accountant and my job and the ppl i meet everyday is my status.... i dont need banksy to improve my status!!!
i am still in my early stages of my career (27 years) but very happy to what i have achieved so far (not in terms of money, but in terms of confidence with my busienss and profession) ... so i feel successful... (i am not bluffing - and i am a person who keeps a low profile, but i "feel successful" - still i have also tried many things which i have not been sucessfull too... so i keep expereimenting throughout my whole life... my philosophy is... if i dont take a risk, i can never know if i would have managed to achieve something or not right!?
you say... i dont need art for status.... but i can also use art to improve my status... i want to be able to do something unique... i mean, i come from the tiny island of Malta where no one understand in art (practically no one has ever heard of banksy!) and when i bought my banksy i did not speak to anyone about it out of shame! When i said to my wife the real cost of my banksy she made a long speech about it.... when i spoke with friends they said "i'm mad or not normal" but as time passes... and they hear of banksy then my status goes up... this message board is the only way to communicate with other banksy fans.... can you understand my feelings?

Not sure about your feelings, but do understand about long speeches from the wife when it comes to spending on prints. Oh yes my friend, I understand only too well.

Was gonna say there's no "accounting" for taste, but...
Could be a cultural difference, but you make Malta sound like the black hole of calcutta But seriously, why are you selling/trading the Grin Reaper. It's a stunning piece of work, and you've already recognised that you own a little piece of art history. My advise is to try and hold onto it.. Artists like Banksy rarely come around, no disrespect to Dan Blandwin, but there's really no comparison.
Forget the trade. Get your head down to business, make a few quid and buy something else sometime in the future ;D
