I now get discount in my local Frmaers through my visits to them. But I just got my Smaller Micallef done in there... ยฃ140.
Im scared to ask for my 40" x 30" one!! Eek!
Looks great though, congratulations!
Are you gonna get your Applause done on a float so you see the deckled edge or are you having it mounted so its hidden?

Thanks, lesroy!! ;D
I got my J&J done for ยฃ87 and VM for ยฃ97. I think those are pretty great prices, especially for the way they turned out. Thought he was going to give me a great price for Applause, but alas, ยฃ220!!!!!! Kind of disappointed Haven't gone through with it yet... still contemplating my finances.
As for the Applause, I think it would be a sin to hide the gorgeous deckled edges, even if the bottom edge is pretty much completely undeckled. So yeah, the quote was for a float above a mat with spacers, ridiculously-but-unnecessarily expensive UV-Plexiglas (same as Perspex), and a gorgeous frame. I told him it was a bit too pricey, and he suggested that I use regular Plexiglas (not anti-UV) and store it out of direct sunlight, which brought the price down a LOT. But I'm paranoid and don't want it to fade... so ugh, dilemma. What would you do if you were in my shoes, lesroy? Bite the bullet?

Hmm Im not sure mate.
I have a Flying coper, Mona Simpson (2005), The Hick, Angel Bomber and Jack & Jill all under "normal" glass. As Im told anything in "direct" sunlight will fade anyway but the UV stuff helps out alot. Its also MUCH clearer so the print will look alot better when under UV Glass...I was gobsmacked by this but you can hardly see the glass.
As you know, I have just smashed my Jack & Jill so I have swapped the glass over to some UV stuff this time and replaced the picture with the "Love is in the Air". I have also gone for UV Glass in my new Micallef as this will be in a brighter room...
... I, like you, always had a nigling in the back of my head about UV glass so have decided to bite the bullet this time, and definately will again with my Larger Micallef... and that's probably gonna be ยฃ200 too.
It's such a hard call as you could buy another print for that money!
Ultimately I'd say... DO IT. f**k it, that print could be worth thousands one day if you need to sell it. Or, if you keep it for the rest of your life, it'll be horrid if your grandkids cant read what the man has on his sign coz the red has faded.
Finally, (and sorry to ramble, but this is a tricky subject) I'd try and do what I did with my framers. Say to your framer,
"c'mon man, you know how much I like this art, I've already had 3 framed with you, there will be loads more... is there anyway you can help me out a little... the framing costs as much as the print... you know i'll be coming back aswell as I post pics of your work all over the intenet... "
I tried this and now get "Staff Discount" The lovable rouge hey
As Delboy would say... "He who dares my son, he who dares"
Keep me posted though man!

Show everyone your latest Art Purchase?, by corblimeylimey on Dec 2, 2006 13:03:56 GMT 1, According to the POW sales blurb for Applause it's printed in lightfast ink, I know that doesn't mean you can stick it in direct sunlight for hours, but that and normal glass should be O.K. I've decided not to float mount the Applause as the top and bottom edges aren't that deckled and it will make the whole frame even larger. I'll post pics when I get it back, which doesn't look like today, Monday hopefully.

Haha! Thanks man! ;D I've already exhaused the "Come on, give me a deal 'cos I'll just keep coming back to ya" thing, and he just wouldn't budge.
Knowing me, I'll probably end up doing it... scud80 has very kindly introduced me to a cheaper framer (although this one is quite a drive away), so I'm definitely going to consider that option. As of this moment, I'm still not 100% sure if I want to frame my Applause yet ('cos I like Sale Ends a lot more, and I'm debating if I should save it for a swap if I don't get it... which is looking more than likely now with the whole POW lottery thing), but with every day that passes, that print is sitting in the tube, which makes me extremely uncomfortable. Argh, decisions, decisions!!!
But again, I'll probably succumb to my "Gotta collect them all!" mentality and have it framed at the end of the day. Yeah, I'm such the prime target for consumerism.

My top edge was deckled... yours wasn't? Hmmm. I wonder why they even have one non-deckled edge. They couldn't afford bigger paper from which to cut from?
Anyway, can't wait for your pic... post it already!!! ;D

Decided against the floating mount as the botom edge was not great and it would be even bigger. All acid free and UV non relective glass. You really can see the differnce the glass makes especially on this print.

Its wood but looks like its a bit battered. I thought it kinda looked like it was made of the same stuff as the ship or the plane.

That's exactly the frame style I wanted to use, except that I chose a gold-ish one! Very, very nice!!!

ยฃ209 for the framing, as I've posted before you could get a better price I'm sure, but as I live in the South West it's a long way to major cities so we probably pay a little over the odds, I'm happy with what the framers have done and it's up to conservation standard.
