The kid's art collections, by Coach on Jan 20, 2009 0:09:35 GMT 1, Thought I would share with you my kids art collections.
My eldest's:
His Make a wish, that Grafter spent time doing with him at Upfest
And this that I picked up for him from a forum member
And my youngest's:
His Make a wish - thanks Grafter for spending the time with them - as has been mentioned on another thread - top bloke. Finally got them in frames, albiet do it yourself ones.
And his Jef Aerosol:
And this that he picked up from Upfest:
And they both own this from Agentprovocatuer, but it stays downstairs at the moment cos they cant agree whose room it stays in!
I do get very chuffed that my passion rubs of on them a little!
Cheers c

I like it too - Upfest was so freindly, they could just wander off on their own. He turned up after a while clutching it, and was so proud to have been given it. Getting the kids interested in art is so important I think. I remember the c215 piece of your daughter - that was just so amazing, and must have made you thrilled. Cheers c

The kid's art collections, by romanywg on Jan 20, 2009 1:42:32 GMT 1, It was a Christmas present for my wife and yes she was indeed thrilled. Also switched my daughter, Romany aged 13, onto stencils and I put her first one up on the street last year. She must make Cartrain seem like a very old man!

The kid's art collections, by Coach on Jan 21, 2009 1:25:53 GMT 1, Thanks romanywg and neale. I know what you mean. When we were on holiday in the summer, I took some card and some pics of the internet of banksy pieces. I bought an artists scapel. The kids cut some stencils, with a little help for the tricky bits, and sprayed them on cardboard. Just banksy copies, but the kids were thrilled with the results:
But, they were cutting the stencils from the paper I had printed. Can I ask the artists here, what is best to use for the stencils? Is card better? Also, is there a way of sticking the stencil to the cardboard temporarily, so the fidly bits don't stick up - we were using tiny bits of blutack, which can't be the best way. Anyway, the kids loved doing it, as did I, and we are ready to improve!!
Cheers c

The kid's art collections, by T*3 on Jan 21, 2009 1:46:38 GMT 1, i find thin card or acetate is best for stencils. to get rid of underspray i use 1 and 2 penny coins to hold down some parts and the other parts i hold with my fingers. also spray closer to the stencil and spray fast.

The kid's art collections, by Dellboyy on Jan 21, 2009 1:53:10 GMT 1, Some prefer acetate, but i use card 250 or 290gsm more recently. I'm a bit of a fan of the coin trick too, i also use small nuts (and bolt kind, not the snack ;D) though to weigh smaller bits of the stencil down.
Also make sure you cover the outside edge of the stencil to avoid overspray if some of the canvas/paper is showing.
As for spraying, experiment! I often spray lighter and further away from the stencil for a different effect... but for plain one colour, maybe 6-8 inches away?

i feel bad that i know what paint that is , i would say that card is good because you can print right onto it and cut out every bit, if your reusing the stencil a lot in a short space of time, this is also best...but accetate is better for a multi layer stencil because you can see what is behind it, but it takes much longer for the paint to dry so you can get smears

The kid's art collections, by Coach on Jan 22, 2009 0:22:53 GMT 1, Thanks for the advice fella's. Will give the card a go next time - it really is a great way to spend an afternoon with the kids. I did appreciate the suggestion that we might do multi layered stencils! Lol. Not for a while, but thanks for the vote of confidence. Dellboyy - why no artists star yet? Finally, this is the piece my 9 year old did on the bus at upfest. The boy has skills!

Cheers, she hasn't seen this post yet, but she 'tore' the outside stencils for the cans festival, then wasn't too sure about spraying on a wall with people watching - she might think differently when she sees your kids efforts - isn't it brilliant that you can induldge the kids in something that you really love!

The kid's art collections, by Coach on Jan 22, 2009 0:51:54 GMT 1, Absolutely. But I like to think that it is now something that they love too, whilst understanding that it is my influence that has got them there. He's got a sweet right foot on him too, on a Saturday morning!!

The kid's art collections, by Coach on Feb 26, 2009 0:01:14 GMT 1, Have dug out the old thread to show off the ltest additions to the kids' collections.
Now up in the youngests room:
And in the eldest's:
They are both very proud of the latest additions to their art collections. Both pieces picked up from very kind artists in the summer, but have been awaiting a bit of home framing!
Cheers c

The kid's art collections, by Cocteau 101 on Feb 26, 2009 0:56:49 GMT 1, To be honest, although I love my Parlas, Banksys etc it's these little pieces, gifts etc that mean so much more, I find it totally endearing and personal when an artist sends or makes you a little piece. I received a gift print from Grafter ages ago of his Forgotten More piece and it means a great deal to me. After some of the antics I've read about on here today, seeing pieces like these restores my faith a little.
