Appeal for Witnesses - April 8th - Redchurch St, by shortcut on Apr 9, 2010 0:10:40 GMT 1, Ryan, hope you and your gf are ok, real nightmare that it turned out like that outside at the end of the night. I got down there at the beginning of the evening, caught up with a few familiar faces and really enjoyed the show. Loved the Insa and Copyright trainers, and a few nicely priced canvases too. Well worth checking out, especially when you can make a trip to the Signal Gallery and Pure Evil too (ROA show - classic!)

Appeal for Witnesses - April 8th - Redchurch St, by Zero Cool on Apr 9, 2010 1:26:30 GMT 1, For everyone who came to support us this evening we thank you for making it a great night - an incident involving a gang of youths (who hadn't been at the show) happened outside the venue after closing for the evening just after nine (the preview was always set to be 6pm - 9pm) - the police are currently investigating and we have all given statements so we have been asked not to comment further until they have concluded their investigation.
We are very sorry our guests were caught up in this and took the shine off what was until then a fantastic night.
If anyone was caught up in this trouble please get in touch with me and let me know if there is anything we can do to help.
We won't let this trouble ruin a show we are all very proud of and we will be open until the 18th so for those who couldn't get in tonight please come in and say hello it would be good to see you all.
Anthony

Appeal for Witnesses - April 8th - Redchurch St, by rsj on Apr 9, 2010 2:20:08 GMT 1, UNFORTUNATE VIOLENCE ... at which point we were told by security to leave the venue, as was everyone else. We didn't really want to head back onto the street where the violence was but security wanted everyone out.
Hope everyone is ok. Am surprised the security forced everyone to leave the venue when there was clearly violence right outside.

Appeal for Witnesses - April 8th - Redchurch St, by jusdeep on Apr 9, 2010 11:05:23 GMT 1, Turned up about 8.30 and couldn't get in. Lots of people on the streets and after talking to security got turned away as well as people with wristbands who weren't being let back in. Such a shame something like this happened, puts a real downer on the evening. Hope noone was seriously injured. Will endeavor to pop in over the weekend to have a butchers.

Appeal for Witnesses - April 8th - Redchurch St, by eddiedangerous on Apr 9, 2010 11:20:51 GMT 1, what a top night, i havent seen so many people at a show like this for a long time, im sure the weather helpsed, but a great show all in all, well organised and put together, hats off to both the soul heaven and zero cool camps for their tireless work.
it was a shame about the violence at the end of the show, however in such a diverse city sometimes these things just cannot be avoided. the police eventually had 4-5 vans at the scene, and had forensics working outside the gallery late into the night.
the aftershow party was also expertly run with a great vibe and some fantastic tunes. i have heard this will become an annual even, and I for one cant wait until the next one. Pics to follow.

Appeal for Witnesses - April 8th - Redchurch St, by ginx on Apr 9, 2010 18:36:57 GMT 1, Urgent call out for anyone with evidence from last night. A gang of about 15 attacked gallery goers for 'drinking outside a mosque'. Two people have lost their sight in one eye. Police are admitting they did a botch job. CCTV camera's were not working blah blah. The venue with the security team that witnessed the whole event must take evidence to the police if not done before. Please please please can anyone with any info please contact me at markstotesbury@hotmail.com. We are going to try to press the case that the police need to continue to press forward with enquiries. People have been disabled and facially disfigured for life. The crowd was completly peaceful until they were attacked by what is known as a notorias gang. Please help us take the bastards to justice.
Edit: we have been informed there will likely be no one attested due to not sufficient evidence coming forth. We need to talk about this not keep silent.

Appeal for Witnesses - April 8th - Redchurch St, by spirit on Apr 9, 2010 18:57:02 GMT 1, Really very sorry to hear this ginx - no-one deserves to get injured like that for going to a gallery opening....
I imagine it's in the Gallery's interest to do all they can to get these guys prosecuted - as the mosque isn't going anywhere I can't see this as a problem that is going to go away - and people aren't going to come to shows if they think there's a fair chance they'll get hurt.
Seeing as this was done in the mosque's name I'd go and see the Imam, explain what happened and why and make it clear that you expect their help and co-operation to bring the offenders to justice.

England is probably their home country. Plenty of Muslims born in the UK.
The violence is not on but seems like two sides to this story. Who ever went to the toilet against the mosque must be feeling pretty bad if that's what kicked this off. A really provocative thing to do, but in no way was the violent reaction justified.

Appeal for Witnesses - April 8th - Redchurch St, by Vandalog on Apr 9, 2010 21:25:08 GMT 1, Any photos from the show? Please
Not even a cursory "I hope that nobody was hurt too badly"? Just "Show me the photos" and a smilely face? How caring.
I cannot believe what happened. The crowds seemed so calm while I was there. I didn't even notice people stumbling around drunk or making excessive noise (not that such behavior would merit an attack of course). Such a terrible turn of events. Hopefully those responsible are brought to justice. If this really was about drinking outside of a mosque, hopefully the folk who own that rent-a-gallery will try to work with the community leaders at that mosque to make sure that something like this does not happen again.

What were security thinking/advised? Get everyone out on the street to fight it out, whilst protecting the venue/art/artists?

That's a really dark thing to say. People were really badly hurt. The irony of the show being called 'kicks and canvas' didn't escape many people but it's in no way appropriate to be making jokes considering the circumstances.

Appeal for Witnesses - April 8th - Redchurch St, by Zero Cool on Apr 10, 2010 10:45:26 GMT 1, The police have asked us to say if anybody witnessed the incident that happened outside of 50 Redchurch Street on April 8th can the call the Serious Crime Unit on 02072754538 and speak to either DC Ahern or DS Tunstall.
Alternatively if you wish to remain anonymous please call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 and if you can quote the crime reference number 4208433/10
This was a serious assault but the police have told us that nobody has lost their sight as a result of the attack they have also asked us to stress that they are not linking the gang attack to the mosque.

I suspect a lot of what the police said is bullshhht. Asking you to stress that they 'are not linking the gang attack to the mosque' sounds to me like they are afraid of repercussions and igniting the whole current political sensitivity to friction with the Muslim community. Judging from what reads to me like witness accounts on this forum - I don't know who else can be linked to these attacks?? My thoughts btw go out sincerely to all hurt either physically or mentally in this fiasco, and that is on both sides of the brawl - it takes 2 to tango. If the reports of someone disrespectfully pi$$ing up against the mosque are to be believed then you've got a lot to answer for.
