UK Election - VOTE NOW, by Daniel Silk on May 12, 2009 14:41:26 GMT 1, google / wikipedia is a wonderful thing eh? a politican in the last 30 years, who's policies still greatly effect this country? Or a politician from 80 years ago - from a different 'era' - which has more bearing on now? Have Conservative significantly changed from then? Other than to be more media savvy with their blair clone?
If he's a Blair clone, is that a good or bad thing?

UK Election - VOTE NOW, by silvermyn on May 12, 2009 14:47:36 GMT 1, Anyone who remembers Ramsay MacDonald wouldn't even think of voting in Labour. (Yawn)
I think the reason why Thatcher gets a mention is because a lot of her policies have resulted in this country changing in ways that people today don't really appreciate.
For example, privitisation of the railways has resulted in huge profits for the wealthy and stupid train ticket prices for the likes of me and countless others. Pensions linked to the stock markets created a boom, again, for those who were already well off (stockbrokers and fund managers). Thatcher escentially created the corporate fat cat we all hate today.
Oh, and lets not forget the milk incident... the heartless b*tch.

UK Election - VOTE NOW, by mash on May 12, 2009 14:56:23 GMT 1, I think that they should limit the government to two terms as any longer and the rot sets in, tories, labour, ancient romans, whoever,. power corrupts whatever your political views. Im Labour by birth and tradition, I happen to think Gordon isn't doing such a bad job considering he is administering the end of an empire (new labour) in a massive world recession, but the Great British Trial by Tabloid, Jade Fucking Goody, Where There's Blame There's a Claim, mentality will hang him out to dry. History will probably show he did as well as anyone could. I do dislike a lot of his cabinet Harriet Harman etc etc smug bastards, they seem to think they are above reproach, and are too entrenched in power now to really give a toss. The bright angry hungry group of heavyweights who the world welcomed in may 1997 have been replaced by this shower.

Inspired, yes. Unfortunately it's more and more driven by something else...
...in general.
